Nicole Kidman's Hot Girl Summer Proves Divorce Isn't The End Of Having Fun In Your 50s

Whoever said single women over 50 can't have fun obviously hasn't met Nicole Kidman. The actor, who turned 59 in June, announced her divorce from musician Keith Urban in September 2025 (it was finalized in January), and has been living her best life ever since. Amid Kidman's post-divorce style transformation, she told British Vogue that her hot girl summer, aka her single girl summer, involved hitting up the likes of London, Ibiza, Paris, and, Italy. What did she do there? Whatever the heck she wanted. "I'm either playing Scrabble or I'm out. It's that simple," she revealed, sharing she hit up raves in a disguise so she wouldn't be recognized. "Dinner at 10.30pm, club at 1am. As long as I'm surrounded by people – like, I take people with me – then I'm fine. I need it," she said.

Though her choices may seem unconventional, more people could stand to take a leaf out of Kidman's carefree book. There's no age limit to having fun, nor is there a rule that says women of a certain age should stay home and wallow after a divorce. "I think there's something really healthy about giving yourself permission to enjoy your life without worrying about whether it looks 'age appropriate' to other people," Tracy Ross, LCSW relationship expert/couples and family therapist, exclusively tells Women.com. "After the end of a long marriage, you're not just adjusting to being single—you're figuring out who you are outside of that relationship. Dancing, traveling, being spontaneous and having fun can be part of discovering what this next chapter looks like," she says.

It's so important to reclaim who you are after divorce

Nicole Kidman's post-divorce fun is a healthy reminder of why it's so empowering to get back in touch with your own identity. Making this effort can be particularly important for those getting out of long-term situations, as people can easily lose themselves in their relationship. "Going out, trying new things, reconnecting socially, even flirting again can remind you that your life is still expansive,"Tracy Ross exclusively tells Women. "Healing isn't only about processing what ended; it's also about discovering what comes next." Of course, flirting doesn't have to go anywhere, especially while you're still healing, but it can be a major confidence boost.

Kidman's blueprint of dancing all night isn't the only way to reconnect with yourself, either. Hanging out with friends legitimately boosts your health, while taking up workout classes (we can help you get into exercising in your 50s and beyond), going on a long hike, or engaging any form of physical movement can help you get in touch with your body. "I don't think the goal for women in their 50s is to prove they can still do what they did at 25. It's to stop believing that pleasure, adventure, sexuality, spontaneity and fun have an expiration date," Ross explains.

That's exactly what Kidman, who also had a post-divorce glow up when she split from fellow actor Tom Cruise in 2001, is doing. Though the "Babygirl" star admitted breaking up with Urban was unexpected — despite the red flags we noticed in Kidman and Urban's relationship – she's made it clear nothing will slow her down. "[I'm] trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities," she told British Vogue.
