Gayle King's Mother-Of-The-Groom Style Proved Older Women Can Have Fun With Wedding Fashion

Gayle King is one of the most recognizable and accomplished journalists in America, a staple of CBS News, having interviewed celebrities from Sylvester Stallone to the infamous R. Kelly. She has certainly come a long way, as Gayle King's face transformation since her CBS debut is still a sight to see. However, aside from her sharp journalistic instincts, it seems King has an undisputed sense of style. And she proved that older women can still exude glamour and have fun with fashion, as seen in her choice of outfit for her son's wedding in 2024.

Considering Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey have been pals for over 50 years, it's no surprise that her son's nuptials were held at Oprah's grand estate. And King was dressed to the nines, wearing a one-shoulder, light blue dress with a large bow on the shoulder. She kept her jewelry minimal, letting her dress do all the talking. The "Oprah Daily" editor-at-large showed that choosing brighter, vivid colors could help older women look younger, while her style of gown was both ideal and age-appropriate for any woman looking to appear both classy and modern. Truly, a connoisseur of style.

Gayle King shows how to keep it fun and fresh at a wedding rehearsal

Before Gayle King opted to wear a light blue evening gown for her son's wedding, the veteran news anchor attended the wedding rehearsal in another show-stopper of a dress. King's gown mirrored the fun, spirited atmosphere of the event, especially with its vibrant patterns of bright oranges and yellows. The dress also looks comfortable to wear for older women, loose and breezy and perfect for the height of summer.

King wore her hair down, a simple silver necklace and hoop earrings completing the look. Beside her, her long-time friend Oprah Winfrey grinned in a figure-hugging dark grey number with a daring slit on the side. The "CBS News" reporter showed that weddings and other festive occasions aren't a time for older women to opt for neutral, muted colors, but to be as exploratory with as many styles and color palettes as they can.
