Actor Melissa Sue Anderson may be best known for her role as Mary Ingalls in the 1970s hit "Little House on the Prairie." Known for her striking blue eyes and long wheat-blond hair, Anderson was just a teenager when she first appeared on the show, which aired from 1974 to 1981. It's been more than 40 years since fans have seen the young talent all dressed up in 19th-century American Midwest fashion, which might make you wonder: What does the character Mary Ingalls look like these days?

Unbeknownst to many, Anderson appeared in over sixty other projects over the years. However, Anderson will forever be remembered as the beloved eldest daughter of the Ingalls family in the Emmy-winning series. The actor, who is now in her 60s, made a rare appearance at the 2024 Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monaco (below). Posing during the "Little House On The Prairie" photocall, Anderson looked quite refined with an evolved sense of style. Wearing a sleeveless, slate-blue turtleneck blouse featuring loosely tied bows along with an ivory-colored long satin skirt, the actor was still very much recognizable by her blond hair and blue eyes. She also rocked the perfect long bob haircut that is so flattering on older women.

Melissa Sue Anderson didn't exactly move on from "Little House On The Prairie" to become a huge star despite her compelling role as Mary Ingalls. She was nominated for an Emmy during her seven-year stint on the show, and, a year later, made her feature film debut in "Happy Birthday to Me." While she may have had a few movie coups along the way, she ultimately decided to step away from Hollywood and focus on her family. The actor has two children with TV writer and producer Michael Sloan (who passed away in 2025). Though she appeared in a few of her husband's films, Anderson told People in 1998 that she was retired from acting and had no regrets. "I really don't feel like I'm missing anything," she said. "It's a lot of work just taking care of the kids."

In 2010, she wrote a memoir, "The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House," to tell her own story about life during the series and beyond, while offering details about her career choices and the decision to prioritize her family. "I wanted to be able to tell my story," she told Pop Entertainment. "It's not a completely rosy picture ... It's a truthful but not hurtful story."

In 2025, fans were thrilled when she reunited with fellow castmate Melissa Gilbert, who played her younger sister, Laura Ingalls, on the show. Together, the two offered fans a glimpse at the stunning evolution of "Little House On The Prairie's" leading ladies.
