Today's Dylan Dreyer Smashes A Big Stereotype For Divorced Women In Their 40s & We're So Inspired

After divorce, many couples fully disengage from one another's lives. However, Today meteorologist Dylan Dreyer, who is known to rock some leggy looks, is holding onto at least one aspect of her life with ex-husband Brian Fichera: vacations with the extended family.

Though Dreyer filed for divorce from Fichera in March 2026, she shared that it didn't stop her from attending his family's annual Turks and Caicos vacation with the couple's three sons. "I still went. I took the boys," she explained during an August 2026 appearance on Today. "To me, yes, it was a family I married into, but it's a family I'm very close with." Though Fichera himself did not attend the vacation, Dreyer's warm, continued relationship with her in-laws suggests this might be another celebrity couple that is total 'divorce goals.'

Dreyer's choice to go on vacation, even after her split, is a reminder that the end of a romantic relationship doesn't need to mean cutting off your ex's family. In particular, if you have children, keeping those bonds strong can maintain a feeling of consistency. As Dreyer explained on Today, "Family is family." Considering how often relationships with in-laws can go south after a nasty split, it's refreshing to see Dreyer finding a way to navigate the transition amicably.

Staying friends with your former in-laws is tricky but not impossible

For people who have wonderful bonds with their in-laws, those relationships can be something they must release and mourn during the divorce process. As a general rule, families tend to side with their own during breakups. "Relationships with in-laws are a lot like friendships. Friendships end," wrote one Reddit user. "The 'we're family' thing isn't really true; their child and grandchildren are their family. It's not true for everyone, but the majority of the time, that's how it plays out." Sometimes, letting go of those family ties can help you move forward and can be a good tip for getting back into dating after a divorce.

But, as Dylan Dreyer demonstrates, some people do figure out how to maintain positive connections with their former in-laws. It usually helps if the divorce was amicable, and if both parties can figure out workable, respectful boundaries. "It took a couple years, but when they saw my ex and I were just fine, they realized it was okay to still be friends with me," shared one Reddit user.
