Stacy London, the confident, sharp-witted stylist on TLC's "What Not To Wear," has been wowing fans with her incredible sense of style since the show's 2003 debut. While she has helped pull off some of the most stunning transformations alongside co-host Clinton Kelly, we can't help but notice London's own impeccable wardrobe and beauty looks – particularly her iconic money pieces. Like several celebs who have rocked the chic money piece hair trend, the TV personality is widely known for her gorgeous face-framing gray hair streaks, which she either parts down the middle or swoops to the side, creating a rich contrast against her lustrous dark mane.
Behind every iconic look is a compelling backstory. For London, her signature hair was the result of a rough childhood journey. "My hair is a big part of me. I've had the gray streak since I got really sick when I was 11," she told Into The Gloss. The stylist explained that she developed psoriasis at age 4 and later began experiencing frequent bouts of strep throat, which together triggered a bizarre reaction that affected her hair. "At the time nobody knew that strep throat could set off autoimmune diseases and make them worse," London said. "One day, I woke up completely covered in red scales from the neck down. Cracked skin everywhere, for two years – that's when the gray streak showed up."
What started out as a source of insecurity has since become her signature look, helping cement her status as a hair icon. The former Pantene spokesperson says she now wears her gray streak as a "badge of honor."
The Stacy London Hair Care System
Great hair like Stacy London's doesn't just happen by chance. The fashion stylist has a haircare system built around products by Philip B, Amika, and, of course, Pantene. "Now, to wash my hair, I use Philip B Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo," she told Into The Gloss in 2015. "The texture is like honey, and it looks like caramel plus it cleans it without stripping it," adding she still uses Pantene shampoo between washes. She uses Amika's Triple RX Mask (now replaced by The Kure Intense Repair Hair Mask) as a conditioner, particularly because she has thick hair that gets dry and brittle at the ends. She follows up with Amika Hair Oil twice a day to maintain a perpetual shiny finish.
"If nothing else, I've learned that heat is really hard on your hair and you need to put something on it before you dry it or put any tools on it," London said, noting that she uses Amika's hair tools to tame her frizzy tresses and create her preferred style.
When it comes to color, the TV star says she's flexible; however, her iconic gray streak is completely off-limits. "Now, I even have a gray clause with Pantene, where I said 'You can do whatever you want to my hair, but you can't dye my gray streak.' It's a part of me!" she told Into The Gloss. Much like other celebs who have had stunning gray hair transformations, London has truly embraced her gray streak, and the world has too.
