Queen Camilla Loves To Read But You Won't Catch Her With This Genre On Her Bookshelf

As one of the heads of the British royal family alongside her husband, King Charles III, Queen Camilla is a fixture of the British press. While Queen Camilla is noted for her most fashionable outfits, it may surprise you to learn that the royal is an avid reader. The queen consort was so passionate about books that she kickstarted her own prestigious book club, dubbed The Queen's Reading Room, in 2021 (years later, Reese Witherspoon would follow in launching her brand new book club aimed at specific readers). And while Queen Camilla loves all books, there's one genre that just doesn't work for her.

"I hate sci-fi," the queen consort of the United Kingdom admitted (per Marie Claire). "That, I'm afraid, is not my favorite." Queen Camilla didn't go into further detail about just why she dislikes the genre so much, but she firmly keeps to her opinion that sci-fi "really is one I don't love." But at the end of the day, the former socialite has a solid appreciation of books, and there was one person she thanked for encouraging that love.

Queen Camilla's love of books came from her father

A love of books seemed to always be in the cards for Queen Camilla. The former Duchess of Cornwall's grandfather and great-grandfather were both writers themselves, and while her own father went down another career path, he never lost his love of reading. And he made sure to pass it on to his children. "He read to us as children. He chose the books, and we listened," Queen Camilla exclusively recounted to The Spectator. "He was probably the best-read man I've come across anywhere. He devoured books."

As a result, the British Queen has a healthy respect for writers. Among her vast philanthropic work, Queen Camilla set up the Reading Room charity to advocate for increased reading among the populace. She invited some of the most celebrated authors of the day to Clarence House, and even dedicated a speech to them. "You allow us to experience life through another's eyes, you encourage us, you make us laugh, you make us cry, you take us on magical journeys, and you create a community of book lovers that transcends almost any barrier," Queen Camilla declared to the packed room of literary artists, per the BBC. The British royal's love for books is evidently genuine, and her message about it is something we can definitely get behind.
