'Every Birthday, Give Away A Mirror': Debra Winger's Cheeky Advice For How To Deal With Aging
From adjusting your skincare routine to cater to mature skin to using hydrating foundations, there is tons of advice flying about on how to deal with aging. However, actor Debra Winger has a truly out-of-the-box idea on how to resolve this issue, and that is to toss out almost all the mirrors in your house. In that way, you don't have to be constantly reminded of the growing wrinkles on your face. "Every birthday, give away a mirror," the "Terms of Endearment" actor exclusively shared with People in 2017, though she does concede to keeping one mirror to "make sure you don't have anything green in your teeth."
But as a seasoned actor with years of experience under her belt in the entertainment industry, Winger has some words of wisdom on how to counter Hollywood's beauty standards. In fact, the actor highlighted that obsessing over your appearance isn't worth it in the long run. "The emphasis on the outside is tiring for a girl, and it can, in the end, take up all your time," Winger told the publication. "I have less time for it, not more time. Makeup turns into triage." And it's a stance that is worth following, as Wagner is one of the celebs that's confronting aging with confidence (and god that's refreshing).
Debra Winger is unapologetic about her thoughts on Hollywood beauty expectations
In 1995, Debra Winger made the momentous decision to permanently leave Hollywood and acting altogether. Although she did return at the helm of some of her film director husband's projects, Winger still remained "disenchanted," as close friend Tom Robbins described, with Hollywood in general. And the "Shadowlands" actor is most certainly unimpressed with the popular plastic surgery trend that's influencing Hollywood celebs.
"[Women in Hollywood] do not accept their age, physically. They start doing things to their face and body which are designed to make them look less than their real age," Winger exclusively shared with The Guardian. "I don't think it is worth trying to look 10 years younger through surgery." And it's certainly heartening to learn that Winger's advice to deal with aging has not changed, and that she's always held to the same tenets since 2002 when interviewed by New York Magazine. It's clear that the three-time Oscar nominee is someone whose beliefs are not easily shaken, and we can't help but hope to emulate that strength.
