Emmy Rossum is a stunner when she lets loose and allows her natural curls to flow. The actor may be more recognizable for her straight and wavy 'dos on-screen, but she makes a statement every time she rocks her natural spirals. As one of several Hollywood celebs you probably didn't know have naturally curly hair, Rossum encourages others to embrace their own texture, writing in a 2019 Instagram post, "Daily reminder your natural texture is worth celebrating."
Rossum was blessed with voluminous brunette curls. With the help of hair colorist Kathy Galotti, the actor takes her look to the next level with stunning warm brown highlights. In an Instagram post showcasing Rossum's multi-tonal tresses, Galotti explained how to achieve the actor's look, stating, "Subtle highlights give curly hair some soft contrast and dimension."
Like many celebs who look gorgeous with their natural hair, "The Phantom of the Opera" star is embracing her natural hair now more than ever. Movie fans have gotten to see Rossum's bouncy locks on full display in some of her latest projects, including "The Crowded Room" and "Furious," and of course on her social media page. "Now that's really good hair! ... you look beautiful," one Instagram follower wrote on a February 2026 snap of Rossum. Another remarked, "The hair of my dreams," while a third compared her to hair icon Julia Roberts, writing, "Ok giving Julia Roberts clock itttt."
Rossum says embracing her natural hair 'makes me feel so unique'
For years, Emmy Rossum straightened her hair and pulled off the look effortlessly. But not only did she eventually grow tired of the upkeep; she also decided to return to her natural curls after the birth of her daughter in May 2021. "I straightened it, I chemically straightened it for years, and then I gave up," she told host Kelly Clarkson on "The Kelly Clarkson Show" in 2022. "I also had a daughter, and I was like, you know, I should just start wearing my hair the way it is. Why should I tell her that she should make her hair look anything other than how it grows out of her head," she continued.
Making the transition also gave Rossum a renewed sense of confidence and a fresh perspective on embracing curls. "What I love about curly hair is I think it projects confidence," she told Vogue. "For so many years, I straightened my hair. I keratin-ed my hair. I would flat-iron and blow-dry and try to kind of contort this into a different ideal of beauty. Finally, kind of embracing my natural hair is something that now makes me feel so unique." Sharing a snippet of her hair care routine with the outlet, the "Shameless" star said she starts with Living Proof Perfect Hair Day in-shower styler, then scrunches her hair with a microfiber towel before using The Curly Co.'s collapsible diffuser to define her curls.
