Study Shows Baby Boomers Aren't Letting Age Stifle Their Love Lives

Baby boomers have been at a disadvantage within the modern dating scene, thanks to cultural shifts and a smaller dating pool compared to their youth. Whether it's combating online dating woes or the stubbornness of someone stuck in their ways, boomers haven't always been given the fairest hand. While our best tips for getting back into dating after a divorce are helpful for divorcees, not all divorcees are baby boomers. Luckily, this generation has already drawn the line in the sand and has remained firm in keeping their idea of love alive well into their older years.

Matchmaking service, Tawkify, conducted a survey to determine how baby boomers truly navigate their love lives while building connections and intimacy. While many surveyed said they believed that mid-to-late 60s is too old to fall in love, 17% of baby boomers had the mindset that no age exists where people become 'too old' to fall in love. Many of them also were open to dating during retirement. While 27% of survey respondents had done it before, 44% hadn't and were willing to give it a shot. Despite being told they're too old to date or feeling pressured to look and act younger in romantic situations, baby boomers are not only persevering, but inspiring those around them to go after what they truly want.

One of the primary hurdles for baby boomers in dating is the technology gap. Having grown up before the technological boom, many are learning how to use dating apps and other services in real time. Compared to millennials and Gen Z, baby boomers need more assistance and support since they're having to build organic connections digitally, potentially for the first time. Tawkify Matchmaking's study even revealed that 1 in 5 baby boomers would use AI to help them build their dating profile, as many prefer to date the old-fashioned way but are mindful of the cultural shifts taking place. 

"In addition to what others have said, I want to add that without iPhones people just generally talked to each other more in public, you might start chatting while standing in line, or at a store or cafe or nightclub, or asking directions on the street [...]," one user commented on a Reddit thread in response to how baby boomers have navigated dating previously. Many other users across the platform have echoed a similar sentiment, confirming that in-person connectivity was what previously led to dating, and that navigating today's dating scene is a new experience. Regardless of age, dating can be difficult for anyone trying to figure out how to find their person. Leading with confidence is the best way to get your foot in the door of what could be a beautiful new chapter.
