Rachael Leigh Cook Looks So Different With A Pixie Cut Hair Transformation (& We Love It)
There are certainly some people who can effortlessly pull off a short cut better than others. For several celebs back in the '90s, they'll always be remembered for their bold chops, whether in a memorable movie role — such as Demi Moore in "G.I. Jane" – or on the red carpet – Winona Ryder's era-defining "Winona" should definitely be on your short-hair mood board. Rachael Leigh Cook also made such a statement in the early 2000s when she debuted a bleach-blond pixie cut that totally transformed her look — and we just absolutely love it.
Attending the "Antitrust" premiere with co-stars Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Breckin Meyer, and Claire Forlani in January 2001, Cook arrived on the red carpet sporting a much different looking hairstyle than the one her character Lisa Calighan wore in the movie. Diverting from the jet-black bob cut fans may have expected to see, the "Get Carter" star stunned in a disheveled styled, textured pixie cut, featuring brunette roots and striking blond highlights.
The edgy look was a major hairstyle transition from the preppy girl-next-door image that audiences had grown accustomed to seeing in her earlier films such as "The Bumblebee Flies Anyway," "She's All That," and "Tangled" — although she did get a little risqué rocking cropped red hair in "Josie and the Pussycats." The drastic chop and light-toned tresses — a hairstyle that can be added to the list of celebrity pixie cuts to inspire your next super short haircut – also emphasized Cook's facial features, drawing attention to her piercing brown eyes, while highlighting her chiseled bone structure.
Rachael Leigh Cook's brunette pixie look
Rachael Leigh Cook continued rocking her pixie for some time in the early 2000s, even switching things up by ditching the blond highlights for a completely uni-toned brunette look. Posing on the red carpet at The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in February 2001 (above), the "He's All That" actor looked effortlessly chic with a sleek low-cut pixie and face-framing micro bangs. Though she'd wear similar — and sometimes longer — styles in movies such as "29 Palms" and "Scorched," her red carpet looks always left an impression.
For the 5th Annual Le Prix Cristal Film Star Awards in 2001, Cook's grown-out pixie took on wispy asymmetrical layers, resulting in another standout short hair look. The textured style once again highlighted her bone structure, slim jaw, and sharp cheekbones.
While Cook was able to pull off these short hairstyles on-screen and on the red carpet, the same couldn't always be said for the fans she influenced to get similar cuts. According to Jezebel, Cook inspired many unsuspecting teens in the '90s to get the "pixie cut/bob thing" unveiled during her iconic makeover in "She's All That," only for it to leave their yearbook photos looking terrible. "I had a professional styling me! It did not stick around long after filming was over," Cook replied. "Let me be clear. I'm sorry for that." However, the actor admitted she, too, fell victim to a few hairstyle misses in her films. "I do think it's less problematic than the Josie McCoy haircut [in "Josie and the Pussycats"]. That spiky feathery thing — that's a real specific person that can pull it off and I don't feel that it was me."
