The Old School Beauty Trick That Will Give You 'Bette Davis Eyes'
Bette Davis is an instantly recognizable name, an icon of Old Hollywood whose legacy remains untouched to this day. She was explosive on screen, with an acting range that made her an instant star. But she not only drew attention for her acting talents, but also for her large, expressive eyes. The "All About Eve" star knew very well that her eyes were one of her greatest assets, and similar to how Greta Garbo used these old school beauty tricks to make her eyes pop, Davis has a simple trick of her own. And with how inexpensive it is, it's easy to recreate at home.
It seems that placing cucumbers over your eyes is a legitimate way to take care of your eyes, and this is exactly what Davis did religiously. But her eye care regimen did not end there, as the "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" star proceeded to slather petroleum jelly around her eye area to keep it hydrated throughout the night. That way, she'd appear bright-eyed and ready for the cameras to start rolling for another hit-making film.
Bette Davis took extra care when it came to her looks
Being as renowned a Hollywood starlet as Bette Davis was, it comes as no surprise that she goes a step further than just solely focusing on eyecare. In an intimate, exclusive sit-down with Lydia Lane, dated to 1951, the two-time Oscar award winner revealed further details about her extensive skincare regimen. Davis emphasized how important it is to get every bit of makeup off of your face and how she's very much against sleeping with makeup on (trust us, it's not worth it). "Sometimes I cream my face as much as five times before I'm satisfied there is nothing left in my pores," the star told Lane, before adding, "I always follow a creaming with a skin freshener."
It's understandable why Davis would be so particular about removing her makeup properly, as the silver screen legend noted that makeup can "ruin" your face. However, other than discussing her skincare regimen, the "Marked Woman" star also offered a tip on how she kept her teeth so white. "Just brush them with bicarbonate of soda," the seasoned actor unveiled to the journalist. "Use it like a tooth powder and you'll never have any discoloration."
