In October 2014, Netflix added "Gilmore Girls" to its streaming catalogue and created a cultural sensation. The renewed buzz around the beloved 2000s-era sitcom launched thousands of think-pieces, inspired the Netflix 2016 reboot series "A Year In the Life," and was even responsible for a surge in babies named "Rory" and "Lorelai. For many, the show — with its autumnal hues, tender mother-daughter relationships, and small town charm — became a reliable comfort watch. But Netflix's multi-year streaming licensing agreement has seemingly come to an end and the series set to leave the platform on June 30, 2026.

Fortunately, fans have a few options for where to watch "Gilmore Girls" once it can no longer be found on the Netflix platform. The series has been available to stream on Hulu since December 2024. For those without a Hulu subscription, it's available for purchase on Amazon Prime, AppleTV, and Fandango At Home. Or if you prefer physical media, you can purchase Gilmore Girls: The Series [Blu-ray]. So, if you're the kind of fan who likes to binge the series every autumn like clockwork, who adds books from Rory Gilmore's reading list to your TBR, or who swoons over Jess, even though he's the worst, you will still be able to visit Stars Hollow.

Fans are heartbroken to see Gilmore Girls leave Netflix

"Gilmore Girls" has been a Netflix standby for so many years, so it's understandable that fans were were devastated to see "Gilmore Girls" move to the "Leaving Soon" section on the platform's streaming interface. "It's funny, the show has become so synonymous with Netflix at this point that many people seem to forget (or just may not realize) that [Warner Bros.] owns it outright," wrote one Reddit user, noting the media company now has its own competitor streaming service, HBO Max.

Still, that hasn't assuaged many fans feelings. "It's literally the only reason I have Netflix. If it leaves, I will follow," wrote a Reddit user, referencing the show's use of Carole King's song "Where You Lead" over its opening credits. Other fans admitted to feeling emotional about the show's departure. "Anyone else burst into tears?!" wrote another Reddit user. "It's the end of an era."

That the show is provoking such a strong reaction from fans, even after 12 years on streaming (and more than two decades after its original premiere), is proof of its enduring emotional power. It features unconventional families, witty dialogue, and complex, realistic female characters. "It honestly never fails to make me feel comfortable and calm, like a cup of tea on a rainy day," wrote one Reddit user. In fact, seven seasons of this cozy show feel remarkably short, but fortunately there are great books to pick up if you want more "Gilmore Girls" vibes.
