Kristen Johnston Feels 'Unstoppable' In Her 50s After Years Of Struggles
Aging is a sensitive topic in Hollywood, but for Kristen Johnston, she's never felt more powerful and "unstoppable" in her life. And it's a feeling that's more than deserved, considering Johnston had been battling with lupus myelitis in the past years. In fact, the "3rd Rock From the Sun" star could count as one of the many women that are still being dismissed by their doctors, and the actor actually went through 17 doctors before one took her symptoms and concerns seriously. However, the feelings of being ignored left an indelible mark on Johnston, leaving her understandably outraged.
Even after her official diagnosis at the age of 46 in 2013, it was a consistent uphill battle, as Johnston had to upend the way she lived her life. Her eating habits had to be overhauled entirely, and it stuck even after she got her autoimmune disease under control. But as the "Mom" actor reflects on the rough experience, Johnston could only feel gratitude that she pulled through. "Everything that almost killed you and didn't, every moment you wanted to give up but you didn't, has now forged this person who is unstoppable," Johnston exclusively shared with Woman's World. "I went through a lot to get where I am today, but I'm alive and I'm happy in my skin. I feel blessed. If you're struggling, just keep going. It gets better."
Kristen Johnston has an empowering message for young women
Kristen Johnston is certainly in high spirits, keeping a positive outlook on life after her turbulent medical struggles. And she definitely has good reason to be happy, as Johnston is a part of hit Netflix comedy show "Leanne." The show stars Kristen Johnston alongside Leanne Morgan, where Johnston plays Morgan's sister, Carol, who emotionally supports Leanne after her unfaithful husband of more than 30 years leaves her for someone else.
According to "The Exes" star, working on "Leanne" has helped her gain crucial wisdom that she wants to share with younger women. "It's that scene in the show where Carol talks to Leanne and she goes, 'Our hair was too high, our boobs were too small, and we were gorgeous,'" Johnston exclusively shared with Decider, "And that's what I want to say to them, like, who cares about Instagram? Seriously? You're gorgeous, just enjoy it." It's a powerful message to young women all around about self-love, and just being confident with yourself without caring what anybody else thinks. This carries to her thoughts on aging as well, making her one of the celebs who's confronting aging with confidence.
