'To Age Is A Blessing And A Beautiful Thing': Vivica A. Fox Is Reveling In Her '60s
For decades, Vivica A. Fox has built a reputation as one of many Hollywood stars who have stood up to gender inequality in the workplace. In her case, she's never shied away from taboo topics like sexism, ageism and even what it takes to gain respect within the industry as a women.
In an interview for Yahoo! Entertainment in 2026, Fox spoke about the appearance standards people are expected to maintain well into their years. "Sometimes people don't allow you the grace to age, to be normal, to live a little bit, to have children, to look a little bit more mature, to age," she said. However, the star isn't letting this reality get her down. "To age is a blessing and a beautiful thing," she told the outlet.
With that age has come a greater understanding of what she will and will not tolerate. Fox recalled to Yahoo's "Unapologetically" about being told "Just do the lines and shut up" by a director whilst in the infancy of her acting career. The 61-year-old actress explained to Yahoo that the moment happened early in her career when she was still learning how to navigate Hollywood's power dynamics. Rather than forget the incident, the actor told the outlet that it became a defining moment. "I've got no time for disrespect," Fox explained while discussing the lessons she's learned over the years.
Navigating power dynamics
Over the years, Fox has built a recognizable careers, with appearances in movies like "Set It Off" and "Independence Day" to "Kill Bill,", but it's her ability to carve out space for herself, within an industry that has historically offered fewer opportunities to Black actresses, and refusal to let age define her that have really stood out throughout her time in Hollywood.
Ahead of her 60th Birthday in 2024, Fox spoke to People about her beauty tips for navigating this later stage in life at a screening of her film, "Not Another Church Movie." "I do my best to drink my water, to take care of myself and to be happy," the star said at the time. "I've got wonderful, wonderful ladies that I can look up to who got older and better, Tina Turner, Sophia Loren. And it's like all the baby boomers are getting older and looking fine as hell."
The actress also added in her interview with the outlet: "I had no idea that this chapter of my life that I would be this booked, busy and blessed. And I'm grateful."
