Hollywood Icon Kim Basinger's Go-To Beauty Trick That Celebs Still Swear By

Kim Basinger is proof that age is nothing but a number. Basinger (much like Goldie Hawn, who has had a gorgeous face transformation) looks great in her 70s and we can't help but wonder how she does it. What's her secret? Hydration seems to be the key. And by that, we mean strictly water. An insider close to the actor told Closer Weekly: "She's big on hydration, she drinks liters of water every day and avoids caffeine." She's not the only celebrity that swears by hydration. Jennifer Lopez's trainer once told US Weekly that the singer "drinks a minimum of seven glasses [of water] a day." Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston once told Shape magazine that she drinks the equivalent of 12.5 glasses of water, daily (via Daily Mail).

Per guidelines shared by Mayo Clinic, the recommended daily liquid intake for an adult is between 11 and 16 liters. While what's healthy for one person will vary based on weight, some research shows that maintaining regular hydration levels is linked to improved skin health (and physical health) overall. However, while it can't hurt to drink more water, it's important to keep in mind that hydration alone won't prevent wrinkles. It's also not the only thing Basinger does to keep her own skin looking great.

Kim Basinger also protects her skin from the sun

While drinking more water certainly plays a role, Kim Basinger's good skin isn't just owed to hydration. The same insider shared with Closer Weekly that the actor has been a vegan for years now, and does not eat processed foods or sugar. According to Dr. Sophia Chachula, a naturopathic doctor, a vegan diet may contribute to less acne, by way of less inflammation and sebum production. According to Dr. Alexis Granite, a dermatologist, these foods can also cause inflammation and lead to faster aging. It goes to show that taking care of what you put inside of you often reflects how you look on the outside.

Along with following a strict diet and hydration regimen, Kim Basinger also doesn't mess around when it comes to protecting her skin from the elements. In the same Closer Weekly article, the insider revealed that the actor is diligent about preventing sun damage. "She's been religious about sun protection for as long as anyone can remember, that's why she never goes outside without a huge hat on. And she's always slathered in SPF," they said. "She says avoiding the sun all these years is the biggest reason her skin still looks so good." This is a great tip, because UVA rays from the sun can damage skin by disrupting proteins like collagen and elastin. Therefore, protecting skin from the sun is one of the most effective ways to prevent wrinkles.
