Savannah Guthrie's Most Over-The-Top Outfits On TV
Savannah Guthrie, NBC's "Today" show co-anchor and chief legal correspondent, may have had her share of fashion misses on TV, but the blame isn't entirely hers. Like most network talents, Guthrie relies on a team of in-house stylists to curate her on-air looks. Even so, she has managed to steadily refine her image over the years, from a wardrobe that embraces fashion-forward trends to a striking hair evolution and even a head-turning face transformation. In 2025, the Daily Mail even crowned her the "morning show style queen." However, even with designer labels and expert styling at her disposal, not every look landed.
Through the years, her sartorial preferences have blended playful designs, vibrant color schemes, and bold prints, striking a balance between personality and professionalism. She frequently taps into accessible luxury brands, favoring labels like Veronica Beard, Stella McCartney, Jil Sander, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Still, at times, her on-air ensembles totally missed the mark for broadcast aptness — styles that didn't quite go together, were overly busy, inappropriate, or unflattering. Ahead, we took a closer look at some of Guthrie's outfits that didn't quite deliver.
Savannah's denim skirt took us back to the Y2K era
Savannah Guthrie's ecru-white denim midi pencil skirt, featuring a high-waist design with front slit and classic front-and-back pockets, nods to early 2000s styling trends. However, denim skirts have remained a perennial staple, evolving with shifting trends.
On the TV anchor, however, the execution missed the mark. While the high-waist design, paired with a yellow cropped tank top, created a figure-enhancing silhouette, the overall fit was slightly off. It lacked the sleek, tailored finish of a modern look and was somewhat inharmonious with the large ostrich-feather brooch.
Guthrie's patent skirt was too shiny for morning television
Rocking this bouquet-printed, coated-linen midi skirt with an A-line silhouette and black sleeveless quarter-zip polo shirt, Savannah Guthrie's style attempt didn't quite make the cut. The sharply contrasting fabrics clashed, and the overall look, due in part to the skirt's shiny reflective finish, came off as starkly inappropriate for daytime television.
To complete her ensemble, she opted for a pair of Gucci leather platform sandals. While undeniably stunning, double-platform heels are somewhat at odds with the sophisticated professionalism typically expected of a news anchor.
Savannah's too-short pantsuit missed the mark
Savannah Guthrie stepped out in this tailored denim jacket and kimra pant set, crafted in stretch-denim with a darted bodice and angled hem. The ensemble neatly highlighted her sleek profile, but the slim-leg pant, which slightly flares beyond the knee and is cropped above the ankle, appeared disproportionate on the almost 5-foot-10 anchor, making the pant look shorter than intended. The effect was further compounded by her choice of a floral ankle-strap platform sandal, which somehow managed to visually truncate the leg line. Ultimately, the overall ensemble proved to be an awkward fit for the anchor.
Guthrie's puff sleeves were straight out of a storybook
Apparently, the verdict on puff sleeves is that they're still in for 2026 fashion trends, according to Rue Sophie. However, they have evolved into more sculpted, architectural designs rather than overtly romanticized silhouettes. Savannah Guthrie's blue puff sleeve, tie waist, satin midi dress fell squarely into the latter, resembling a fairytale-like wardrobe with its lustrous quality and floaty draping aesthetics, which feels out of sync with modern tailoring. With that said, the anchor's slender frame also helped shape up this whimsical, storybook-inspired look. Let's hope she will one day join those older celebs who have proven that their style got better with age.
Busy pattern, metallic shine - a visual overkill
There's no complaint with Savannah Guthrie nailing the fit of this impeccably tailored mae short-sleeved silk dress – if she were going to a wedding or a cocktail party. The look, which was worn for an appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," was a bit too fussy for the occasion.
The teal dress features a sheer overlay with busy embroidery of gold and metallic florals throughout. Against the neutral base, the high-shine metallic elements looked overpowering, catching the light with mirror-like intensity as she moved, ultimately becoming more distracting than captivating. She further amplified the effect with shiny metallic leather platform sandals.
The head-to-toe velvet miss
The key to styling velvet lies in rich, deep tones and a matte finish that exudes opulence and elegance. Outside of that balance, velvet that's too shiny or lacks a tailored fit can come across as less refined.
In a head-to-toe velvet look, Savannah Guthrie wore this velvet jacket & lebone velvet pant set, and while velvet re-emerged as a standout fabric for fall and winter in 2025 and 2026, as noted by L'Officiel, the execution here fell short. The fit appeared slightly crumpled, and under studio lighting, the fabric's sheen became more pronounced, resulting in a finish that ultimately appeared less refined.
The look: An ode to the film, Grease 1978
Savannah Guthrie appeared to be embracing a more playful mood when she arrived in this getup on "The Tonight Show." The anchor's ensemble channels Olivia Newton-John's Sandy from the movie "Grease," with a biker-chic-inspired twist.
The Gucci crystal-embellished headband, cashmere cardigan with embellished star-shaped buttons, leather pants, and patent-leather combat-style boots, however, were out of sync with one another. The overall look was also unexpected for a mother of two in her 50s (at the time of reporting). Even more surprising was her decision to debut the look on "The Tonight Show," where it felt more club-ready than polished for television.
Guthrie's unflattering, floppy plaid blazer
This plaid print blazer could have looked a lot better on Savannah Guthrie had she sized down a notch. As worn, the piece lacked the streamlined tailoring needed to achieve a sharp-looking silhouette, instead appearing overly loose and shapeless. She paired the blazer with a black slip dress underneath and completed the look with Gucci horsebit-detailed leather ankle boots, which made the ensemble feel awkward and mismatched rather than complementary, earning its place among the journalist's on-air fashion misses. Yet, she's not alone; other anchors like Megyn Kelly have also worn some outfits that fell totally flat on the air and off.
A butterfly mess meets a leather skirt and stilettos
On another visit to "The Tonight Show," Savannah Guthrie brought a dose of runway flair in this butterfly appliqué top, styled with a leather skirt and Mary Jane-style platform stilettos. Though fashion-forward, the look felt overly elaborate for a talk show setting. The top's glossy, three-dimensional butterfly embellishments proved especially distracting on camera, while her high, messy ponytail registered as a styling misstep. This ultimately pushed the ensemble into high-fashion excess rather than late-night appropriateness.
It's way too early in the morning for this shiny metallic look
In another look that was totally misaligned with the tone of morning television, the "Today" show host arrived on set wearing this wrap-effect metallic scuba skirt. To her credit (or her stylist's), she attempted to tone down the shiny metallic effect of this statement piece with an unassuming sleeveless turtleneck top and classic black heels. Still, the skirt's high-shine finish proved difficult to subdue, commanding attention in a way that ultimately overwhelmed the look rather than refined it.
