The '70s spawned a string of memorable shows that those of us who grew up on them would look back on with fondness. But there's no show more memorable than the ABC family sitcom, "The Brady Bunch". It's still an iconic show even decades after filming wrapped in 1974, with unforgettable characters like Jan Brady, the middle child of the Brady collective. Played by the talented Eve Plumb, Jan Brady was a relatable character for anyone in life who's experienced what it's like being the middle child in a family, as both the character and actor grew up before our very eyes. But more than 50 years later, it's natural to be curious about how life has gone for Plumb and how she has changed since her "Brady Bunch" days.

While Plumb ventured further into acting after "The Brady Bunch" ended, the veteran actor revealed that she had made a career switch into another artistic field. The "Little Women" star has been painting at a professional level, to the point where her work is taken seriously by collectors, galleries, and major exhibitions. "I started to teach myself techniques to get to the place that I wanted to," Plumb exclusively shared with Woman's World, "If they didn't like it but if I liked it well enough to put it up on the wall—and that's true today—then that was enough." She paid no mind to her detractors about putting acting on the back burner, and even went on to publish her own memoir, "Happiness Included: Jan Brady and Beyond", published in April 2026. In it, Plumb detailed her experiences as a Brady cast member, her thoughts on acting and the film industry, and her personal life.

Eve Plumb says being Jan Brady isn't as lucrative as you think

Eve Plumb was completely unafraid of baring it all about the seedier parts of the entertainment business and how sometimes, you're not really paid for all the work you've done. The "Family Affair" star has revealed in her aforementioned memoir that just because you were cast in a major sitcom doesn't mean you're laughing all the way to the bank. And she's not talking about the lump sum she was paid while filming, but the residuals accrued from reruns of the show. "If I had a dime for every rerun episode, I'd pay off the national deficit," Plumb wrote in her memoir, per Page Six. "I don't." It seems Plumb has tips for curbing your bristly bluntness while still being upfront and honest as she makes subtle digs at ABC's past treatment of her and her fellow "Brady Bunch" alumni.

In fact, one of Plumb's castmates has revealed the lack of sufficient financial compensation much earlier than she has. Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, unveiled this in his own memoir, "Growing Up Brady: I Was A Teenage Greg", published back in February 2000. "It was enough to indulge in toys," Williams wrote in his autobiography, per Page Six, "but hardly enough to carry you through the slow periods that inevitably followed." It seemed Plumb and her once-castmates could have benefited from our tips on how to get more comfortable spending money on yourself as they pull themselves out of the financial weeds and into a stable adulthood.
