Sheryl Lee Ralph's Marriage Thrives Despite Their Unconventional Living Arrangement

Sheryl Lee Ralph's success on the hit comedy show "Abbott Elementary" shows no signs of stopping. However, the "Moesha" star has also found success within her second marriage to Pennsylvania Senator Vincent Hughes. And Ralph has revealed the unconventional method she used to keep her marriage to Hughes going strong, which echoes the strange things in Ciara and Russell Wilson's marriage that may be the secret to their success. The "Dreamgirls" show-stopper revealed that they've maintained separate residences during the course of their marriage, which has lasted for almost two decades. "He has his own life. I have my own life," the "Sister Act 2" star exclusively shared with People, "He is not looking at me thinking about status or this or that. He's doing his thing. I get to do my thing." 

Despite how non-traditional and strange it sounds, it seems to be working well for the couple. Although you may think fans would be shocked and confused at Ralph's way of doing things in her marriage, they were actually very supportive. "Goals honestly ..." one Reddit user bluntly commented. Another Reddit user added, "I, extremely single, firmly believe the way to a happy relationship is having your own space." And to us, it appears that the couple will be one of the celeb marriages that we think will stand the test of time, as the star marked her 20th wedding anniversary with Hughes by throwing a vow renewal ceremony in Hughes' home base of Pennsylvania. 

Although Sheryl Lee Ralph has publicly supported and raved about her and Hughes' living situation, there have been rumors swirling that the pair may at last have chosen to share one roof together. However, "The Distinguished Gentleman" star has neither denied nor confirmed the rumors, and instead has this to say: "My husband as senator is always in his Capitol," Ralph told Entertainment Tonight, "so I don't know what magic people think we're going to do." The accomplished actor continued to heap praise onto her husband and told her fans to pay no mind to the rumors as she's happy with how things are, adding that she sees Hughes 'on the average of every two weeks,' presumably due to their hectic work schedules. 

But it seems that some experts actually approve of the couple's marital living arrangements, as relationship expert and psychologist Lisa Marie Bobby weighs in. "It's fantastic," Bobby exclusively shared with CNBC. "Couples find all kinds of ways to design their own relationship." And Ralph has learned some valuable lessons about marriage and relationships after the end of her first marriage to Eric Maurice, ones that she has appeared to successfully apply to her marriage with Hughes. Even Hughes acknowledged to Essence that they both did some relationship counseling before they tied the knot, which is something we are all for.
