4 Times Katie Holmes & Joshua Jackson Delighted Dawson's Creek Fans With Their Off-Screen Chemistry

In the world of Hollywood celebrity, sometimes co-stars would have so much chemistry on-screen that it translates off-screen as well. This certainly applies to Hollywood veterans Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson, who once worked on "Dawson's Creek" together back in the '90s. The pair even became a couple, lasting for about a year before breaking it off in 1999. However, their chemistry appears to live on off-screen.

After Jackson, Holmes moved on to "American Pie" actor Chris Klein in the early 2000s, and then finally with action legend Tom Cruise. Holmes and Cruise were married from 2006 to 2012, and Holmes even dated Jamie Foxx for six years before breaking it off. Jackson himself has been linked to several high-profile names after Holmes, such as Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong'o. He was married to Jodie Turner-Smith from 2018 to 2023, but now things seem to have come full circle for both Holmes and Jackson.

Sparks appear to have flown once again as the pair reunite for the making of a film trilogy, "Happy Hours." Fans have even noticed, and this has caused some to wonder if there is more between the two, and if Holmes would benefit from our tips for rekindling a relationship with a past love. Here are the top four moments where Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson's off-screen chemistry was so off the charts it sent fans and media into a tailspin.

Their photoshoot screams intimacy

Katie Holmes certainly set tongues wagging when she shared a photo of herself and Joshua Jackson in an intimate photoshoot on her Instagram account. Dated April 16, 2026, the photo shows Holmes with her arms around Jackson, with the pair staring directly into the camera in a way that screams intimacy. Holmes posted this image alongside a caption celebrating their new serial project, "Happy Hours", as well as the opportunity to reunite with Jackson. "We are so thrilled to be a part of the Tribeca Film Festival this June with our film 'Happy Hours.' So many beautiful people worked on this project. And working with Josh again was a dream," she wrote.

Fans made their thoughts known in the comments, and they're not only getting a healthy, nostalgic dose of the "Dawson's Creek" days, but fans are mooning over the pair and hoping they get back together. "This is the marriage that should have happened in real life," an Instagram user commented, alongside three heart-eyes emojis. Another user said, "Please get married in real life and heal our millennial hearts." And it seems Holmes herself agrees, as she has liked some of the comments on this post that are praying that they become a couple again.

The two were cozying it up on the red carpet

Although neither Joshua Jackson nor Katie Holmes ever confirmed they had gotten back together, they're certainly not helping the rumors when they decided to go to the red carpet premiere of "Brunello: The Gracious Visionary" together in April 2026. And based on pictures, it seemed they couldn't keep their hands off of each other, with Holmes snapped touching Jackson's arm as they conversed with one another. Not only that, the two were caught sharing a couple laughs and just having a swell time in one another's company.

Once more, fans have taken note of their appearance together, as well as their heartwarming interactions. "They both look so chic, and they look great together! Aww," a Reddit user commented. "There's absolutely no way for me to feel normal about this," another excited Reddit user added. As the pair are collaborating on a new film franchise together, it's uncertain whether these appearances are purely done for promotional purposes. But whether they're strategically planned PR moves or not, it's certainly casting a spell on fans. And if we can say so, their interactions seem a bit too genuine to be planned.

Joshua Jackson has only good things to say about Katie Holmes

Despite their breakup and the years thereafter, it seems there's no hard feelings on Joshua Jackson's end. In fact, the "Fringe" actor is practically effusive in his praise of Katie Holmes, and has no problems with letting the world know. Jackson showed up for an interview on "Today" and when speaking of Holmes and their new project, he had this to say, "More than anything, for me, selfishly, it was an opportunity to get to work with Kate again. ...  And, you know, you never know until you're actually doing the thing, but to still have chemistry with somebody after all of those years is nice." And it seems Holmes feels the same way based on their previous interactions and the Instagram caption mentioned above.

It seems Holmes and Jackson could count themselves in this list of celebs who prove you can be friends with your exes, but whether they're set to actually reconcile and restart a romantic relationship remains to be seen. But it seems Jackson is looking forward in resuming working alongside Holmes in the near future, implying that he hopes for the success of the first film, which is set to premiere on the Tribeca Film Festival on June 2026. "Hopefully, we'll get a chance to make the other two," Jackson shared with the hosts of "Today."

The pair appear more than affectionate on set

Their off-screen interactions on the set of the first film of "Happy Hours" are sending fans into a frenzy, with the chemistry extending even to when cameras are rolling. As seen in the image above, Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson are pictured in a tender embrace, while other images have depicted the pair exchanging warm smiles and laughs. And it seems their close friendship (and potential brewing romance) is helping with executing the scenes, as the film's plot mirrors Holmes' and Jackson's real-life dynamic, which follows a separated couple that gradually rebuilds the love between them throughout the course of the movie. Apparently, the plot was cooked up by Holmes herself, who serves as the movie's director and writer. Coincidence?

But not only are fans appreciative of the pair's natural good looks and graceful aging, they also couldn't ignore how good they look together as more photos emerge of the two on set. "Their chemistry has always been so perfect," comments one Reddit user in response to a carousel of images of the pair on the set of "Happy Hours". Another Reddit user teased and poked fun at the pair by joking, "Toying with all of our emotions on the daily!" Of course, Holmes and Jackson might really be only friends in real life, and may have decided that they're better as friends after their breakup in 1999, as it's unconfirmed why they split up in the first place. But with the dating rumors and the pair's loving interactions in public, we'll be watching closely to see if romance is really on the horizon.
