Sandra Lee's Broken Engagement Highlights The Importance Of Filling Your Own Cup
It seems that Hollywood relationships are going through a downturn lately, from Megan Thee Stallion's public callout on cheating after the end of her relationship, to now, celebrity chef Sandra Lee going through her own public split. Lee has called it quits with her fiancé of five years, Ben Youcef, and hasn't been tight-lipped about it. But thankfully, it seems Lee is similar to the celebs who prove you can actually be friends with your exes, as she still has nice things to say about Youcef despite their breakup. The celebrity chef first announced the breakup in a post on her Instagram account. And in the captions, she further detailed her thoughts on Youcef, "Ben is a kind, wonderful man. I have nothing but respect for him and what we shared. I truly want him to move forward into a life that brings him happiness, just as I am committed to doing the same."
Although her reasons for breaking off the engagement remain quite vague, it seems that the former couple is parting ways amicably. In fact, Lee offered something else about herself that's quite interesting. "This will be the first time, in my entire adult life, that I will be completely single and unencumbered, which changes everything for me ... it is scary and exciting all at once," Lee shared with her fans in the caption. Her candid confession emphasizes how important it is to know yourself first, and to fill your own cup before starting a new relationship.
Sandra Lee has never been lucky in love
Before Ben Youcef, Sandra Lee had had other brushes with love, though not all of them ended well. The "Semi-Homemade" star was married to Bruce Karatz — the former CEO of home construction firm KB Home — from 2001 to 2005. From the divorce, Lee allegedly received a divorce settlement that was reported to be 'in the mid-eight figures' per Page Six. And the very year she separated from Karatz, Lee was already romantically linked to another high-profile name; The Food Network star launched a romance with Andrew Cuomo, the now-former Governor of New York, that would last for 14 years.
The relationship with Cuomo became serious enough that she lived with him and his three daughters in an estimated $1.85 million mansion she'd purchased. But toward the end of the relationship, Lee was battling breast cancer, and things had gotten increasingly strained with the now-disgraced politician until she ended it in 2019 over something Cuomo said. "I was in my kitchen, and he said something. And the minute he said it, I knew what he'd just said. And every window and door was closed. And that was it," Lee exclusively shared with Us Weekly, per Page Six. Lee never specified what it was that Cuomo said that proved a dealbreaker for her, but it was truly over, and by 2021, Lee had moved on with Youcef.
