7 Chic Princess Diana Outfits You Probably Missed

There's simply no denying that Princess Diana was a fashion icon. There were royal fashion rules which she never followed, including wearing high necklines. There were also certain looks which had deeper meaning than you knew. For example, she wore a Rowing Blazers sweater with a single black sheep, possibly hinting that she felt like an outsider within the royal family.

No matter what Princess Diana wore, she looked great. Her fashion choices set trends, even decades after she debuted some of her looks. Many of her outfits sold out quickly after she wore them, and even Kate Middleton pays homage to her at times through her own style choices. Although we're all aware of some of her most famous outfits, like her "revenge dress" and her Harvard sweatshirt with biker shorts, there are some lesser-known outfits she wore, which are quite chic.

Her little white dress

Princess Diana famously wore a little black dress after Prince Charles had publicly admitted to adultery. The dress later became known as "the revenge dress." But, lesser known is her little white dress, which she wore in 1995 to the Children of Bosnia charity concert in Italy. The dress, designed by Versace, was a simple shift dress with gold accents on the shoulder straps. She paired it with white heels and a clutch. It was simple, but timeless and chic.

Her pink polka-dotted dress

Princess Diana's style was way ahead of its time. On April 7, 1983, she visited Freemantle Hospital in Australia, wearing a pink dress with white polka dots, designed by Donald Campbell. The dress featured puffy sleeves, a gathered neckline and belted waist. Isn't it similar to the dreamy, romantic styles you'd see at LoveShackFancy? Princess Diana looked super chic in the dress, especially paired with a matching hat and white shoes. She truly looks like the princess she was at the time.

Her casual outfit, shouting out a charity

Even when Princess Diana was dressed casually, she looked chic. In May 1988, she attended the Guards Polo Clubwearing a British Lung Association sweater, paired with a blazer, blue jeans, a baseball cap and cowboy boots. We're not sure how she managed to pull it off, but she did. We also love the fact that her sweatshirt brought attention to a good cause. Princess Diana was an advocate and supporter of many charities, and we're happy to see she cared, even when off duty.

Her color clashing, but trendsetting outfit

In March 1989, during her official tour of the Gulf States in UAE, Princess Diana was spotted wearing a Catherine Walker dress and a Philip Somerville hat. The dress was pink and red, featuring gold buttons down one side, which she teamed with a matching pink and red hat. At the time, the outfit may have been seen as breaking the fashion rules by clashing two bright colors. But, Princess Diana actually started a trend. Red and pink entered the runways in 2021 at the Jacquemus, Brandon Maxwell, and Blumarine shows.

Her two-toned houndstooth suit

The houndstooth pattern is a timeless and classic one. Some years, it's more popular than others, but it really never goes out of style. Princess Diana shook things up a bit when she wore a two-toned set by Moschino around Christmastime in 1990. We're used to seeing houndstooth in just one color, but this two-toned set looked unique and fabulous. The red was definitely the right fit for the holiday season, and black is a classic houndstooth color. Princess Diana even had the perfect shoes to match her outfit.

She started the butter yellow trend

Need even more proof that Princess Diana was ahead of her time? Check out the color of the jumpsuit she wore at Marivent Palace in August 1987. It's butter yellow, the same color that made a huge comeback in summer of 2025. Princess Diana looked chic and comfortable in this lightweight jumpsuit, perfect for the warm weather. We also love that she paired it with gold shoes and gold jewelry for an elevated look. She never fails to impress us!

Her bright pink suit that possibly inspired Elle Woods

Princess Diana has worn many chic suits in her time. In fact, quite a few of them were pink. But, we especially love the pink suit she wore in March 1993. The suit resembled a blazer dress, as it was long and flared out at the bottom. Princess Diana paired it with black heels and a black purse with gold chain strap. The suit was short enough to show off her killer legs, too. She truly looked stunning in the ensemble.
