Outfits From Usha Vance's Travel Wardrobe That Should Have Stayed At Home
When it comes to MAGA women, Usha Vance seems like a bit of an outcast. Not only is she one of the few ladies of MAGA who aren't falling victim to 'Mar-A-Lago face', but there seems to be an overall reluctance about her. After all, she's been open about the compromises she's made for her husband, JD Vance, which include putting her career on hold for his. No wonder there have been a few moments that had us sure they were headed for a divorce.
But Vance's plans for her future aren't of much importance at the moment; being the smiling, dutiful second lady of the United States is her current role, and one she can't escape — at least not yet. One of the big parts about being married to the VP is traveling all over the globe so JD can preach the words of MAGA and try to get other countries on board with what Donald Trump is doing back in the United States. Naturally, all this travel requires a travel wardrobe, and we're sorry to say that Usha tends to have more misses than hits in that area.
Although we don't know if Usha is on board with her position, or if she's counting the days until it's over, until then, she has some looks she should start leaving at home when traveling. Granted, she never dresses scandalously, but she's definitely someone who needs to elevate her wardrobe.
Dressing down would've been better here
No matter what side of the aisle you're on, you have to admit that Melania Trump knows how to dress. So when Trump and Usha Vance headed to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, in November 2025, not only were the stark style differences between the two women obvious, but Vance appeared overdressed — especially compared to Trump, who wore jeans and ankle boots. Usha, you're going to a marine base to meet the troops, not out for tea.
Choosing the frumpy route
When Usha and JD Vance attended Good Friday Mass at St. Peter's Basilica in 2025, she wore something so frumpy that it aged her. Granted, Good Friday Mass isn't the place to get flashy or to copy Kimberly Guilfoyle by wearing something beyond tacky, but a single-colored dress, like black or dark gray, would've been a better option for the occasion and more flattering for Usha. Considering Usha isn't Catholic, the Mass probably wasn't a huge deal for her, but she knew the cameras would be there, so a little sophistication could've gone a long way.
Going a little too casual
Although this photo was taken on the tarmac of Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in April 2026, right before Usha and JD Vance boarded Air Force Two, you'd think Usha would've chosen a different look. It's one thing to board in casual attire in D.C., then change before landing in a foreign country, but it's another thing to be so casually dressed while your husband is talking to the Hungarian media.
Seemingly missed the style memo
In all fairness, take any average American and put them beside a French couple, and there's going to be a big sartorial difference. That being said, when Usha and JD Vance visited Paris in February 2025 and stood next to Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron, one political couple that has a major age gap, they really didn't have a chance. Usha's periwinkle dress was too frumpy for both her age and the occasion, and she would have been better off trying to tap into the French flair of dressing impeccably at all times.
Could've used some sparkles for this particular visit
When Usha and JD Vance headed to the Turning Point USA event with Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, in Mississippi in October 2025, Usha missed the opportunity to elevate her look. While there's nothing wrong with this dress, as it's the appropriate level of conservative and pious, considering Kirk was rocking skintight leather pants and combat-looking boots, this could have easily been Usha's chance to have some fun with her outfit. In the months that followed, Kirk's outfits would get glitzier, hopefully inspiring Usha to give sequins a try in the future.
Leather is an off choice for a memorial
In September 2025, Usha and JD Vance flew to Minneapolis to pay respects to the victims of the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting. But the strange thing about this travel outfit was that it included a black leather skirt. Although there's nothing wrong with leather, it seemed an aggressive choice when honoring the loss of innocent lives. This was an odd choice for Usha, especially since we know she has so many other looks that would have been more fitting.
A blazer would've helped this situation
While some women in politics wear outfits loaded with meaning, that doesn't appear to be the case with Usha Vance. If anything, she comes off as someone who gets up and stares at her closet until something catches her eye. Again, this seems to have been the case when Usha and JD Vance touched down at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in April 2026. The short-sleeve violet sweater and matching long skirt had her looking like she was about to stroll around town. A complementary blazer could've saved this outfit.
Hanging on to those millennial trends for deal life
At 40, Usha Vance is a millennial, and because of this, she sometimes tries to still make millennial fashion happen. For example, when Usha and JD Vance were campaigning in September 2024 in Greenville, North Carolina, she tried too hard with this particular outdated outfit formula that was totally cringe. The skinny jeans should've been shelved years ago, and a sleeveless mock neck bodysuit is no one's friend. While Vance may not have been able to help herself, when you outdate yourself so hard, you can't escape your generation.
