Reese Witherspoon's Full Beauty Evolution In Photos

Reese Witherspoon won our hearts as Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde" and as Melanie Smooter in "Sweet Home Alabama." Although these films were released in the early 2000s, we still reference her iconic lines to this day. That just goes to show how noteworthy an actor she really is. Witherspoon then made the successful transition from actor to producer to entrepreneur, all while looking beautiful. She even started a book club, which had us wondering if she really reads all of her Reese's book club picks.

Much like other celebrities, such as Taylor Swift, who has had a full beauty transformation, Witherspoon has also had a stunning beauty evolution. When she first hit the scene in the early 2000s, she very much looked like the girl next door. Then, as she grew older and perhaps more comfortable in her own skin, she started to look more like the starlets of old Hollywood. Her hair has certainly changed throughout the years, but so have her makeup techniques. Let's take a trip down memory lane and see her full beauty evolution through photos.

2001: She looked like the girl next door

Reese Witherspoon became a household name thanks to her role in "Legally Blonde." At the movie's New York premiere in July 2001, Witherspoon looked like the perfect girl next door. Her makeup was very minimal and young, but it looked like she was wearing some mascara and perhaps eyeshadow. The standout feature of her look was her peachy-red lips and deep blue eyes. Witherspoon's hair at the time was short and dirty blond, which is quite a departure from the way it's been styled since the late 2000s.

2004: She went full brunette mode

Reese Witherspoon debuted a very different, equally beautiful look at the Venice Film Festival in September 2004. She wore her hair in a dark brown hue instead of the dirty blond she's known for. It was also noticeably longer than in her previous public appearances. Compared to the photo from 2001, Witherspoon is wearing heavier makeup, which balances out her darker tresses. Her pink blush on her cheeks brings warmth to her face, and her glossy pink lips are the perfect finishing touch.

2007: She decided to get bangs and wear rosy makeup

Reese Witherspoon looked stunning at the Golden Globes in 2007. The actor wore her hair mid-length and pin-straight, and she also added bangs to her look. This new 'do was an apt combination of her previous two looks (blond hair and a heavier rouge that complements her skin tone). She wore pink blush, which matched her peachy lipstick. Her eyes stood out with mascara, and her eyebrows appeared to be slightly thicker than when she first hit the scene in 2001.

2012: She went with a soft, feminine look

Reese Witherspoon served us a softer, natural look at the 65th Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Her blond hair was lighter and wavier, tied back into a ponytail. Wisps of her hair framed her face, which showcased a flawless makeup application. Instead of the usual pink blush we've seen her with thus far, she opted for a natural color on her cheeks (possibly only wearing foundation). She played up her eyes a bit more with eyeshadow and mascara, and her lips received a swipe of peachy-pink color, which suited her soft, feminine look.

2018: She gave us old Hollywood vibes

At the premiere of "A Wrinkle in Time" in 2018, Reese Witherspoon arrived looking all glammed up, wearing her dirty blond hair in long waves with a side part. It definitely gave off an old Hollywood type of vibe. Her eyes really popped with her mascara, eyeshadow, and dark eyeliner on her waterline, which she balanced with light blush and pink lips. It seems that Witherspoon knows herself well and what looks good on her, and this is true especially as time goes on.

2026: She looked like a natural beauty

Most recently, Reese Witherspoon appeared at an Apple TV and Apple Books event to celebrate "The Last Thing He Told Me" in February 2026. Her hair was still wavy and long with a side part, and her makeup was very natural, too. Her peachy-pink lips stood out the most as she smiled, showing off her pearly whites. Even Witherspoon's style has come a long way from the outdated trends we can't believe she wore. As a woman who turned 50 in March 2026, it seems like she's happy and comfortable in her own skin.
