Side-By-Side Pics Show Off The Devil Wears Prada Cast's Style Glow-Up From First Premiere To Now
As a movie that centers around high fashion and the very exclusive magazine that covers everything sartorial, we would expect no less of the "Devil Wears Prada 2" cast to show up to the premiere in their finest. The first film, which came out in 2006, gave us so many iconic moments, with the lead stars, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt repping the movie in the best Y2K 'fits. During the New York City premiere back then, Hathaway rocked a body-hugging red gown, while Streep showed up in a pearlescent two-piece outfit, accessorized with a long scarf. Meanwhile, Blunt wore a very 2000s slip dress in a lilac shade that complemented her cast-mate's striking color. Fast forward two decades, and side-by-side pics prove "The Devil Wears Prada" leading ladies are aging like fine wine, while it's also clear that their style game has seriously reached new heights.
During the April 20 premiere, Streep wore an outfit that Miranda Priestly would approve of, with a dramatic red leather cape and long black gloves. Hathaway, meanwhile, turned heads in a show-stopping red Louis Vuitton dress with a drop waist and a flared skirt, and Blunt showed some enviable fashion clout by donning a custom-made sculptural Schiaparelli gown. The fashion is certainly a far cry from the first "Devil Wears Prada" press tour, where the stars were dressed more simply, and the thought process behind their looks is so relatable.
The Devil Wears Prada cast chose premiere 'fits that sparked joy
During the "Devil Wears Prada 2" press tour, Anne Hathaway wore several outfits that would get Andy Sachs' stamp of approval, but her New York City premiere dress was the best yet. When discussing her red carpet look, she told Access Hollywood, "I think the strategy has just been joy. It's just been fun. You know, I feel like so much of Andy Sachs where she is right now is, she reaches for the things that make her happy." As for Emily Blunt's unforgettable Schiaparelli creation, she shared, "What I love about a press tour or a red carpet is that it can be a spectacle. It can be an extension of how you feel. It can be theatrical, and you can have a sort of elsewhereness to your style, and I love that."
The actors' stylists had a more deliberate approach. "We have been, from logistics to creative, kind of strategizing among ourselves. What look works best here or there? What's the other person wearing? Will they look great together?" Streep's stylist, Micaela Erlanger, told The New York Times. Jessica Paster, who works with Blunt, offered insight into their thought processes. "I remember one text among us was like: 'I'm thinking red. I'm thinking a little burgundy red ... Is it weird that they're all wearing red?' I said, 'No, let's lean into that, and let's do it all in red,'" she shared. With all the amazing 'fits they've gathered so far, we can't wait to see what looks have been chosen for the movie, and we're sure every one deserves a standing ovation. That's all.
