Meghan Markle had a rare beauty misstep during a 2026 visit to Australia. Her eyebrows looked heavily penciled and blocky, especially compared to the rounded, feathered style she typically favors. The intense looks recalled beauty trends from 2016, when brows were filled in and had a sculpted, squared off shape. It was a surprising choice, especially since Markle once gave us a refreshing makeup-free moment that turned heads. But now she's left us wondering whether she's developed brow blindness.

Filling in brows so that they look natural can be tricky. Just a little bit of color, whether pencil or powder, goes a long way, and light strokes better mimic the appearance of brow hairs. Markle's chunky brows don't allow for the glimpses of skin that keep brows looking natural. "Some of us have a more boxy brow, but none of us really have rectangle brows. You want to be able to see space between the hairs, you want to be able to see skin between the hairs," makeup artist Tatiana Ward told SELF in 2018. "By trying to fill in every little space, you'll most likely get the look of an overwhelming brow." Hopefully, Markle's new brow shape isn't permanent, and shewill be making a return to her normal understated beauty style.

Meghan Markle favors a light-handed approach to makeup

Meghan Markle isn't typically one to rock a full-glam makeup look. Her go-to beauty routine tends to involve semi-sheer skin coverage for a dewy finish, since she likes to ensure her freckles are visible. "Every time I'd do her makeup, she'd say, 'Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don't want a ton of foundation,'" her former makeup artist, Lydia F. Sellers, told Refinery29 in 2018. says. "It was more about the amount of product that went on her skin and keeping it really fresh and dewy, rather than caking it on."

Markle also favors a nude lip and a subtle smoky eye to accent her features without looking heavily made up. "My routine is very simple — I call it the five-minute face," she told Allure in 2014. "It's just Touche Éclat, curled lashes, mascara, Chap Stick, and a little bit of blush. That is my favorite kind of look." While she does wear a little more makeup when she's appearing onscreen, or when she's stepping out for an event, it's always applied to enhance her natural, dewy radiance.
