Kristi Noem Lives A Lavish Life Of Luxury In MAGAland

When it comes to polarizing political figures within Donald Trump's current administration, few have sparked quite as much fascination and scrutiny as Kristi Noem. While her policies and public statements have been the subject of criticism throughout her political career from her days as Governor of South Dakota through to her current appointment as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas — it's her life outside of office that has generated chatter online.

Although Noem came from humble beginnings, her extravagant lifestyle, from her penchant for luxury travel to her high-maintenance beauty routines, is world's apart from the everyday realities of the average American. She once stayed at a hotel that cost upwards $900 for a single night, more than half the price of the average U.S. apartment rent of $1620.

The closer you look, the harder it becomes to separate her public image from the excess. Despite positioning herself as a politician who rose through the Republican ranks due to her staunch alignment with MAGA-world values and her earthy rancher persona, Noem has simultaneously cultivated a lifestyle that feels anything but modest. And while modern-day political branding and campaigns often, unfortunately, rely on perception over policy, the details of Noem's day-to-day choices suggest a level of luxury that highlights a larger trend among modern political figures: a shift toward highly curated, almost influencer-like personas with polished visuals, strategic messaging, and a constant presence across platforms.

Noem's love of luxury travel

One of the most talked-about aspects of Kristi Noem's lavish lifestyle is her approach to travel and housing. Her travel spending has been subject to scrutiny, with significant taxpayer-funded expenses and reported use of private jets. According to a press release shared by the Democrats Appropriation Committee, in 2025, Noem used $200 million in taxpayer money on a pair of Gulfstream G700 private jets during the government shutdown. This kind of lavish spending was far from new to the MAGA politician, whose office, according to The Associated Press, once spent $7,555 for a round trip flight to Paris. This is only the tip of the iceberg, as her total annual expenditures throughout her six-year governor tenure amounted close to $640,000, working out to an average of $106,666 annually.

In Noem's case, these extravagant expenses aren't always covered by funds from her own pocket. Despite earning close to $200,000 annually during her time as secretary of Homeland Security, alongside a spouse at the helm of a lucrative insurance company in South Dakota, and owning a multimillion-dollar ranch, The Washington Post reported that she stayed in a government-provided residence at no personal cost. Her lavish taste in travel and use of government-subsidized housing — despite having access to alternative accommodations — is a combination that arguably conflicts with the fiscally conservative image Noem promotes, especially as everyday Americans continue to feel the financial squeeze.

The high price tag behind those polished photos

Kristi Noem's polished appearance has also been a cause for controversy during her time in the public eye. Noem's look, often associated with the glossy aesthetic sometimes dubbed "Mar-a-Lago face," is one that doesn't come cheap. The beauty trend used to describe the appearance of fellow MAGA-Land figures like Karoline Levitt and Lara Trump, is thought to involve a combination of regular cosmetic treatments like Botox and fillers. Although she has not gone on record to confirm which work, if any she's had done, Noem's face transformation suggests she's had some subtle tweaks.

These procedures require consistent upkeep — Botox on average can cost around $420 to $435 — so with costs like that, the price tag for staying in lock-step with the in MAGA beauty trends can quickly add up over time. While there's nothing strange about investing in your personal appearance, the financial gap between this level of maintenance, especially when you factor in her consistently camera-ready look points to a routine that goes well beyond the occasional appointment.

From Political Figure To Full-Blown Personal Brand

Beyond the MAGA-land politician's regular beauty upkeep, Noem has also reportedly poured money into shaping her media presence. During her time as governor, she invested heavily in a personal studio setup, complete with professional lighting, filming equipment, and makeup resources. It's the kind of investment into personal brands that blurs the line between political communication and commitment and influencer-style marketing. It raises questions about how modern day political figures should present themselves — and who should be responsible for footing the bill.

Noem's head-turning hair transformation and ever-so perfect styles are another key indicator of her lavish spending habits. Though she hasn't confirmed it herself, the Republican's signature voluminous look appears to rely on high-end extensions, which on average cost anywhere from $100 to $3000, not to mention the regular maintenance required to keep them looking seamless. For many people, this kind of investment is an unthinkable expense or a luxury service reserved for special occasions. But in Noem's case, tv-ready hair appears to be part of her everyday, all of which reinforces the sense that her public persona is consistently manicured and carefully maintained.

Noem's wardrobe signals loud luxury

Kristi Noem's wardrobe is also representative of her lavish and luxury taste. From designer-inspired looks to luxury watches reportedly worth tens of thousands of dollars, and according to CNN, even kitting out the secret service in trendy wares, Noem's style choices consistently lean on the pricier side.

In March 2025, The New York Times, reported that Neom was spotted wearing a gold Rolex Cosmograph Daytona (estimated at $50,000–$60,000) during a visit to El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center. Her affinity for high-end accessories was further highlighted in reports, by CNN detailing the contents of a stolen Gucci bag, which allegedly included a Louis Vuitton Clemence wallet, her driver's license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, a makeup bag, blank checks, and approximately $3,000 in cash. But it's not just what the MAGAland politician spends on material things, it's how it contradicts her political standpoints that rely heavily on traditional values, self-reliance, and a connection to rural America.

Noem's willing to spend a high price on perception

As the line between governance and personal branding continues to blur, Kristi Noem may be less of an outlier and more of an example of where modern politics is headed. However, aspirational branding aside, one thing remains clear, Noem's version of life across all categories comes with a distinctly lavish price tag.

Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising example of this attitude is her controversial $220 million Department of Homeland Security ad campaign. People's partial breakdown of the cost of the lavish shoot, revealed not just large production costs, but highly specific — and at times unusual — expenses, including $20,000 in horse rentals for a Mount Rushmore shoot, nearly $4,000 on hair and makeup, and even a $500 purchase from a South Dakota magic store.

Add in undisclosed but likely tens of thousands more for videography, labor, and production, and the campaign begins to look less like standard government messaging and more like a high-production spectacle — fueling criticism that, for Neom perception and theatrics often take priority over fiscal restraint.
