Kate Hudson's Lethal Legs Couldn't Save These Unfortunate Outfits
Kate Hudson is known for starring in all of our favorite rom-coms, from "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" to "Bride Wars." As with most movie stars, Hudson has experienced a striking style transformation through the years, leading to some outstanding fashion moments on and off the red carpet. For example, we can't forget her 2014 appearance at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, when she wore a silver gown with a plunging neckline and unique cape. It's clear the star isn't afraid to show off skin. As one might expect, the actor also takes great care of her body. She revealed to People that her routine includes cardio, Pilates, and yoga. She even co-owns an athletic wear company called Fabletics, which sells yoga pants with fun prints.
Some may even go so far as to call Hudson a style icon, known for her signature Bohemian looks off the red carpet. Even style icons have their low points, though. And Hudson is no exception to that rule. Hudson has indeed worn several outfits that totally missed the mark. Although she has a killer body (especially her toned legs), that couldn't distract us from some more of her poor outfit choices.
Hudson's chocolate brown dress with huge bow
The actress recently took to the FYC Emmy's carpet wearing a fit-and-flare dress. While the chocolate brown hue flattered the actress' complexion, the cut of the dress was unusual. Even though it put her toned calves on display, the large bow on the front seemed awkwardly placed and unncessary. It made her look like a wrapped present rather than an event attendee.
Hudson's mismatched bra top and oversized blazer
A mini-skirt suit could be a great way to show off your legs. However, Hudson's attempt at this look for Stella McCartney x Adidas party in Los Angeles back in February 2023 fell short. While the blue color was a nice choice, her decision to wear a jewel-fringed bra top underneath made her look like a belly-dancer who had to rush to a corporate event and decided to throw on a blazer. The blazer itself also seemed unusually oversized, as the photo shows her fingertips barely peaking out the sleeves. We are glad that the actress opted for no jewelry and light makeup, though. The blue and sparkles were already loud enough!
Her sheer dress that resembled lingerie
When Hudson attended "The Skeleton Key" premiere, she wore a sheer black Versace dress, which showed off a lot of leg. But while the revealing ensemble was surely spicy, on a red carpet, it seemed a bit tacky. The combination of black lace and sequins looked like a sparkly swimsuit coverup or lingerie. Perhaps Hudson was going for a sultry look, but we believe that this dress missed the mark.
A sequined disaster
In 2009, Hudson arrived at the premiere of "Nine" at the Ziegeld Theater in New York wearing a Chanel number. At first glance, the silhouette seems to show off just the right amount of tasteful thigh. But, if you look closely, you'll notice an awkwardly long train trailing the backside of the dress. It just seems very out of place. On top of that, the sequined looks somewhat old fashioned. If a bit of fringe were to be added, it would actually resemble a 1920s flapper dress.
Prom dress mess
While a thigh-high slit is usually makes for an instant fashion win on a red carpet, Hudson's take on the style at the London premiere for her film, "Nine," missed the mark. Although her toned legs stunned in silver heels, the asymmetrical hem and monstrous train practically made them disappear. On top of that, the dress itself had simply too much going on, from the ruffles to the bedazzled bodice. It looks like a cross between a prom dress and a bridal gown; far from what we'd expect from Hudson.
An ill-fitting gown
Hudson appeared at the 11th Breakthrough Prize Ceremony at Barker Hangar in April 2025 wearing a see-through, champagne-toned Elie Saab Couture dress. Even though we appreciate her attempts to highlight her legs with the sheer clothing trend, this gown left a lot to be desired.
First of all, the fit was way off. The fabric appeared unusually loose at her mid-section, giving it an appearance like a beach coverup rather than a formal gown. The silhouette was also awkward on her arms, and with all those stringy beads, it just looked like a mess.
