Yellowstone Star Kelly Reilly Has Had Some Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark

Although Kelly Reilly may have become well-known in the United States thanks to her role as Beth Dutton in "Yellowstone," she's actually been acting since 1995 when she scored her first movie role and landed a part on the BBC television series, "The Biz." In fact, because Reilly has undergone such a major transformation over the years, fans of 2005's "Pride and Prejudice," might be surprised to learn that Reilly played Charles Bingley's less-than-pleasant sister, Caroline, who was consistently a thorn in the side of Lizzie Bennet. In other words, because Reilly isn't new to the entertainment industry, it also means she's had some public appearances where her outfits have totally missed the mark. However, such fashion faux pas don't seem to bother Reilly.

"Fame and celebrity don't interest me at all," Reilly told The Scotsman in February 2014. "I don't want to be doing fashion shoots and being interviewed about where I shop. Who cares? I act because I have to, because I need to find out whether I can do it or not — that's what drives me and excites me and lights me up."

While Reilly may not care, it won't stop her fans and the media from paying attention to what she wears. As Reilly and Cole Hauser prepare for the May 2026 premiere of yet another spinoff in the "Yellowstone" franchise with "Dutton Ranch," it's time to revisit Reilly's fashion misses. Not to shame her, but to showcase how far she's really come.

Making a bit of a frumpy entrance

In January 2013, Kelly Reilly attended the UK premiere of "Flight," wearing a strapless full-length coral-red dress. As much as Reilly pulled off the look that was simple yet sophisticated, it was the frumpy coat she showed up in that was the eyesore. It would be one thing if Reilly was Karoline Leavitt, who has a penchant for frumpy outfits that don't flatter her, but Reilly is a celebrity who was attending a film in which she had a leading role opposite Denzel Washington. The coat really should've been left in the car, because it certainly wasn't worthy of such an occasion.

Not realizing the shoe makes the outfit

For the season two premiere of "Yellowstone" in May 2019, Kelly Reilly arrived in style — almost. While Reilly did a great job of leaning into the polka dot renaissance without looking too twee with this strapless white and black polka dot dress, the problem is her shoes. For starters, in no world do dark brown suede ankle boots even belong in the same stratosphere as this dress. Had Reilly gone for a simple black heel or even a black sandal, she could've easily saved this entire look. Instead, she opted for these ankle boots that neither match nor even complement the dress.

Washing herself out with too much white

As much as Beth Dutton from "Yellowstone" is gorgeous in real life, that doesn't mean every color she wears works for her. Because Kelly Reilly is a natural red head, her complexion is strikingly fair, meaning it doesn't take much for her to look completely washed out if a shade doesn't complement her skin tone. When Reilly wore all white at the Tribeca Film Festival 2013 after party for "A Single Shot," she looked pretty lifeless. There's also the fact that this was her look for an after party and there's absolutely nothing party about this ensemble at all.

A bit too casual for a movie premiere

As much as this empire waist slip dress that Kelly Reilly wore to the Paris premiere of her 2005 film, "Les Poupees Russes," is absolutely in style for the time, it's too casual for a movie premiere. This is especially the case when you're one of the leads in the movie, which Reilly was. While Reilly's costars, Kevin Bishop and Evgenia Obraztsova, appear to have received the memo for how to dress for such an occasion, Reilly's attire is more on par with meeting friends for lunch or running a few errands on a hot summer afternoon.

Dressed for another event in another decade

While there's nothing wrong with this off-white floral-printed dress, it's not exactly a look that comes to mind when someone says the word "gala." However, when Kelly Reilly attended the closing night gala screening of "Flight" during the 50th New York Film Festival in October 2012, this is what she wore. Although she's matched the dress to her clutch and heels, Reilly looks more like she's going to Easter Sunday Mass or a work happy hour event in the 1990s. It's the wrong decade and wrong occasion for this look. When the invitation says "gala," it's an opportunity to be creative and groundbreaking.

Looking like she just threw something together

Although Kelly Reilly told The Scotsman in February 2014, that fashion wasn't her thing, finding it silly to be interviewed about where she shops, that doesn't mean she can't at least look like she's made an effort. For the October 2015 Broadway Opening Night Performance of "Old Times," starring Reilly, as well as Eve Best and Clive Owen, Reilly wore this fitted off-the-shoulder dress with a tiny ruffle detail at the neckline, which she paired with light brown heels. Not only do the dress and heels make zero sense together, in both design and color, but it's an overall underwhelming look for opening night on Broadway.

When the LBD doesn't fit quite right

While there have been countless celebrities who have proven the LBD's iconic versatility, Kelly Reilly in this dress is not one of them. For the season five premiere of "Yellowstone" in November 2024, Reilly arrived in this full-length black dress. Although the strapless factor and front slit feature are lovely details, the sheer center in which Reilly's belly button is revealed is just missing the mark. Not only does the sheer fabric not lay correctly against Reilly's torso, taking away from the ensemble, but it also feels unnecessary. In fact, it's a little too Beth Dutton and not very Kelly Reilly.
