You May Not Recognize Beth Dutton From Yellowstone Without Makeup

Beth Dutton is bold in both her character and her appearance, making her practically unrecognizable without makeup. She is a sinister woman, whose temper often leaves her with black eyes and bruises on her cheeks. Beth appears in most scenes wearing smoky eyeshadow and thick mascara. Her cheekbones are frequently contoured to intensify her cunning and Machiavellian traits. Kelly Reilly, who plays the "Yellowstone" leading lady, looks nothing like Beth when she isn't dressed up. It's safe to say that that's a good thing, considering Beth is known for being absolutely bonkers and is even described as "evil" by her father.

On her now-deleted Instagram page, Reilly posted a selfie of her bare face while wearing a "Yellowstone" Dutton Ranch cap. Fans would have been shocked to see that beneath the cap, her blue eyes were no longer hidden under dark layers of eyeliner and mascara, and they shone brightly in the sunlight. One fan complimented her natural look, writing, "You have to be as beautiful as your eyes" (via Glam). Without the contour that bronzed her cheekbones on set, Reilly's skin looked radiant and porcelain, replacing Beth's toxic traits with the actor's kindness.

In a behind-the-scenes video posted to the Yellowstone Universe YouTube channel in 2021, special effects makeup artist Abigail Steele talked fans through just how many hours it took to transform Kelly Reilly into Beth Dutton. According to Steele, Reilly's makeup routine took more than an eyeshadow palette, and she wore many prosthetics, too.

Reilly and Beth both love a smoky eye and Reilly enjoys a dark eyeshadow — her eye makeup is sometimes even darker than Beth's. On one occasion, at the "Yellowstone" Season 5 premiere, Reilly turned up to the event with very heavy eye makeup. She wore black eyeshadow that faded into a lighter shade of beige on her inner eyelid, and donned a gray undereye. Her cheeks were contoured to amplify her prominent cheekbones and chiseled jawline. At a screening of Sky miniseries "Under Salt Marsh," the actor opted for a gold and beige glitter on her eyelids, and a dark waterline. Once again, Reilly bronzed her cheeks, giving her a mysterious demeanor.

There are many stark differences between Kelly Reilly and Beth Dutton, notably Beth's sadistic ways and Reilly's kindhearted nature, but clearly there are some similarities, too. Like Beth, Kelly Reilly predominantly wears her hair loosely clipped up, or unstyled and resting on her shoulders. On many occasions, the actor has showcased her thick Birkin bangs, swooping across her forehead. That being said, one noticeable difference between the two is when she isn't portraying Beth, whose hair is blond, Reilly likes a copper color instead.
