For Bunnie Xo, who has always known how to nail trends while staying true to her style, the decision to take a GLP-1 wasn't to lose weight. Similar to Kathy Bates, who has had an inspiring weight-loss transformation, it was for the sake of her health. In a February 2026 exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the podcast host shared that both of her parents were diabetics, so taking the medication was a preventative measure. "My insulin numbers are really crazy and my body just cannot tolerate it," she told the publication. She started using the GLP-1 in hopes that it might help her keep those numbers under control.

Unfortunately, the medication led her into a scary spiral of "suicidal ideation" throughout the month of December 2025. As such, she shared her personal experience so that others considering a GLP-1 would be aware that the medication could lead to more serious consequences beyond just dealing with "Ozempic face." "I really think people need to talk more about this...I haven't had suicidal ideation like this since 2020. That's how bad it was," she told PEOPLE. And while you may be thinking this is simply one person's experience, it's not just Bunnie Xo.

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reported in early 2024 that they were aware of the reports of individuals experiencing "suicidal thoughts" or in extreme cases acting on them. While the number wasn't significant and there wasn't a direct correlation found between GLP-1 medications and "suicidal thoughts," they would continue to look into the matter.

The invisible side effect of Ozempic and other GLP-1s

"I wish I could be part of the cool crowd and be skinny and freaking not have a care in the world," Bunnie Xo confessed in her exclusive interview with PEOPLE. This heartbreaking admission is proof there is immense social pressure that drives even regular people, not just public figures toward GLP-1 medications. And while there are many success cases on Ozempic or any other GLP-1, it's important to remember Bunnie Xo's experience with suicidal ideation as a side effect isn't an isolated event. There's science to prove it.

A 2024 case study published in Innovations in Clinical Neuroscience found that the way GLP-1 medications interact with the brain can affect those with already diagnosed mood disorders. These drugs target parts of the that are responsible for emotional regulation. They are the same areas responsible for the "food noise" everyone says disappears when taking a GLP-1. The medication seems to be great at silencing those noises, but scientists also fear it can unintentionally mess with the brain's ability to process all other forms of pleasure.

While researchers are still studying the long-term effects of GLP-1s, it's important to approach taking these medications with caution. While not everyone may experience these daunting side effects, Bunnie Xo surely wasn't the only person. Just looking at Reddit alone, there are a countless number of posts that discuss experiencing serious mood swings and severe emotional blunting while on a GLP-1. So, just remember to approach the "cool crowd" look with caution.

Bunnie Xo has never been afraid to get up close and personal

Bunnie Xo's admission of how the GLP-1 affected her mental health might seem very personal to most people, but it's definitely not unusual for the podcast host. While many celebs choose to keep most of their lives under wraps, the author of "Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic," has never been afraid to discuss even the most personal aspects of her life. Some details are so private, it may leave you stunned.

For instance, on a February 2026 episode of "The Howard Stern Show," Bunnie Xo, who is truly so sexy and stunning without makeup, shared all kinds of intimate details about her marriage, such as how their relationship survived her husband cheating her with an ex and how their sex life had vastly improved after Jelly Roll's jaw-dropping weight loss transformation. And her social media platforms are practically her personal diary at this point.

The podcast host and published author doesn't just use the platforms as a way to keep her fans updated on her career, but really pulls back the curtain on her behind the scenes life as Alisa DeFord (her given name). From celebrating her anniversary of leaving the sex worker industry on Facebook to sharing a video of herself meeting her birth mother, who left her when she was just three months old on Instagram, the woman truly keeps no secrets in the dark.
