Sarah Huckabee Sanders Shoe Choices That Ruined Her Outfits

Sarah Huckabee Sanders' style game is uneven at best. While some MAGA women might embrace bold fashion statements, like Ivanka Trump, who has worn outfits full of hidden meaning, Huckabee Sanders tends to opt for simple and fairly modest looks. It's true that the Arkansas governor has rocked the occasional showstopper, but there have also been times when a rookie style mistake has ruined Huckabee Sanders' entire outfit. "Most of the time she looks like a blind ex-con dressed her & did her hair & makeup," wrote one Reddit commenter.

Often, the issue is that she returns again and again to the same outdated shoe, because Huckabee Sanders' favorite shoe is as basic as it gets, and it's bringing down her looks. On other occasions, it seems like she just grabbed the first shoes she could find as she was walking out the door. Clearly, Huckabee Sanders has good pieces in her closet, but, too often, an otherwise promising outfit stumbles when it comes to footwear.

Almost everything about this puffy, two-strap heeled sandal that Sarah Huckabee Sanders wore for a joint appearance with Ivanka Trump looks dated. The trend of chunky heels has given way to more delicate styles like kitten heels and stilettos. These shoes also feel toweringly tall considering that Huckabee Sanders' skirt hits above the knee, creating an awkward and disrupted vertical line. 

Finally, while the nude color is probably meant to make the shoe low-profile, the thick straps add so much visual weight that they end up simply drawing the eye. The look would have been more stylish if she'd swapped these for a pair of delicate kitten heels.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders wore a cheery pink mini dress for an appearance at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce. Unfortunately, the color story for this look was a total disaster since she mystifyingly paired her neon frock with a pair of pumps in an unappealing shade of brown. 

Technically, it's true that brown is a neutral, but this dull and slightly gross shade seriously dampened the otherwise bright look she had going. A similar pump in a true neutral like black or white, or even a nude color that simply left the focus on her dress, would have been the better choice here.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders looked way too casual walking around Washington D.C. in a pair of pale yellow horse-bit mules. Given how the slip-on style flops around on her feet, they look more like house slippers than polished shoes suited to a public political figure. 

Also, because she paired the flat shoe with a hem line that hit above her knee, the result was an awkward expanse of bare skin and an unflattering disruption to the vertical line of look. She would have been better served by a classic pump or even a tall boot.

There is something slightly unnerving about the nude mules that Sarah Huckabee Sanders donned for a 2026 Turning Point USA Event in Arkansas. Maybe it's the super pointy toes, which look sharp enough to draw blood. Or it could be the fleshy two-tone color palette. It could also be the bubbled detailing, which creates a sense of texture that is oddly organic. 

Either way, these shoes undercut the effect of her tasteful, slightly sculptural magenta dress. This look would have stunned if she had kept it classic and simply opted for a traditional nude pump.

It's not clear what vibe Sarah Huckabee Sanders was going for when she paired these loose trousers with an open-toed shoe for a campaign fundraiser, but it wasn't polished professional. 

What might have been a feminine spin on office dressing is made way too casual with the sight of Huckabee Sanders' bare toes peeking out from her trouser hem. Even a pretty pedicure can't redeem this look. If she were actually trying to achieve business-appropriate attire, she would have been more on trend with a pointy-toed ankle boot or pump.

Tall boots and a mini dress usually make for a reliably chic combination, but Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn't quite stick the landing during this appearance with former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. 

While the texture of the boots is nice, the shade of beige is more nude than brown, which means it blends a little too much with her skin tone. As a result, the eye kind of passes over the boots, leaving the outfit looking unbalanced. There's also something strange about the snipped toe, which leaves Huckabee Sanders' foot shape looking awkward. A black or true brown boot with a pointed toe would have felt more sophisticated.

While "Don't wear black with navy" is the kind of outdated fashion rule that it's generally okay to ignore, the key to pulling it off is making sure that it feels intentional. That's exactly what Sarah Huckabee Sanders failed to do with this look at the Arkansas capitol, where she paired a navy and olive dress with black pumps. 

There's no other element to her outfit, like a neck scarf or even a purse, to anchor the black shoes, so they just look like an ill-considered accessory thrown on at the last moment rather than a thoughtful choice. The same pump in nude would have been the perfect finishing detail.

The charm of skinny jeans is that they tuck beautifully into tall boots, but Sarah Huckabee Sanders doesn't appear to have gotten that memo. Instead, for an appearance at Joni Ernst's Annual Roast and Ride, she opted to tuck her ankle boots inside her jeans. The effect is awkward and looks pretty uncomfortable. 

If she was going to choose statement suede boots — like these ones that are inexplicably dual-toned — she may as well have left them outside her jeans and fully on display. Still, she would have been better off with a tall boot here, which would have offered a more natural visual balance to her blue top.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders hosted Arkansas medical students at the state capitol while wearing a cherry red shift dress. But what might have been a fun mod moment was undercut by some dour gray pumps. 

The combination of a low heel and dull color is seriously matronly, and it clashes with the youthful dress. It would have been a cute opportunity for a white shoe that picked up the detailing in the dress, but instead, it looks like Huckabee Sanders just reached for the closest pair of heels in her closet.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is dedicated to the chunky heeled mule. But, once again, the two wide straps leave an otherwise classic outfit looking seriously outdated. In part, that's because the blocky sandals have fallen out of fashion favor. 

But, even more glaringly, she inexplicably decided to pair a bright white top with a yellow-y, off-white shoe for an awkward moment of color clash. A white shoe would have coordinated with the top, while a proper nude color would have blended and left the focus on her clothes. Either would have been a better choice.
