Amy Schumer Outfits That Just Didn't Work For Her

Let's be real, being a celebrity doesn't automatically make people fashionistas. While some celebs may hate to accept that they're not making the best-dressed list at any public event, Amy Schumer, who is one of the many celebs who totally transformed after taking a GLP-1, has always been the first to admit that fashion has never been a priority of hers. Back in 2016, she told Vogue (via Today), "[Fashion is] just not my thing. ... I just have this sense of entitlement that I should be able to feel comfortable at all times, like I could go to bed at any moment in what I'm wearing." 

It's hard not to respect Schumer, who has shared so much about her weight loss journey, for feeling that way because she's in an industry where people are always striving to look perfect. But that doesn't mean she's only looking to be comfortable. When Schumer dresses up, she doesn't play, and she has truly delivered some iconic fashion moments. Examples include her goddess-like white gown at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars After Party and the black and white mini Balmain number she wore to the 2015 MTV Movie Awards.

Yet, whether it's before or after her transformation, not every one of her looks has hit the mark. There have been some outfits that just didn't work for her and left people puzzled. Whether it's showing up in unflattering thick horizontal stripes or donning a color-block knit dress, Schumer has had her fair share of styling woes. 

As a longtime advocate for adequate endometriosis care, Amy Schumer was invited to the 2022 National Institute of Reproductive Health's Annual Champions of Choice awards. Unfortunately, she wore an outfit that lacked any kind of structure: a loose button-down and wide-leg trousers that swallowed her frame. This came as a surprise because 2022 was one of Schumer's best years for iconic looks. From her all-black chic Met Gala look to her custom low-cut fitted bow dress from Oscar de la Renta for the Academy Awards, we know she could do better. 

Another flop in 2022 was a color-block dress she wore to the "Inside Amy Schumer" premiere in October. While the colorful knit dress looked comfortable, this outfit didn't celebrate her figure at all either. The purple section widened her frame, and the red sleeves cut off right past the shoulders and at the wrists, creating a choppy silhouette that shortened her frame. It's hard not to compare the unflattering look to the stunning fitted red dress she wore to the premiere of the very first season of "Inside Amy Schumer" in 2013.

Amy Schumer was photographed in February 2024 heading to "Good Morning America" to promote the second season of "Life & Beth." And the whole ensemble she wore failed to land anywhere at all. From the pink sunglasses that clashed with her face shape to the shapeless beige coat that looked like a potato sack, the look was a complete mismatch. On top of all of that, the seasonality of the coat didn't really mesh with the floral spring-like maxi dress she wore under it. 

Amy Schumer showed up to Variety's 2024 Power of Women: New York event in a shimmering light pink floor-length Self-Portrait gown. And this is a gown that had so much potential. The color complemented her complexion perfectly, but the execution just wasn't there. The high, rounded neckline combined with the heavy ruching detail through the midsection created a closed-off effect. A v-neck or off-the-shoulder design would have been perfect for this look and elongated her frame. Instead, the high neckline ended up accentuating her shorter neck.

Amy Schumer opted for a deep green gown with a slit on one side for the SNL50: The Anniversary Special in February 2025. It was clear the comedian looked stunning in green, as it brought out the best of her complexion, but the dress's silhouette, or lack thereof, was working overtime and doing too much to cover her frame rather than letting her best features stand out. The neckline sat at an awkward position, making her look top heavy, and the excess of draped fabric added bulk to the midsection. 

When Amy Schumer took the stage for the 2025 Love Rocks NYC concert, she wore a striped dress that did nothing to flatter her frame. If anything, it felt like it was competing with her silhouette. The thick horizontal shapes created an effect that was a lot to take in visually and broke up her height. The boldness and stark contrast of the black and blue stripes drew attention outward and created a widening illusion. A solid color in the same fit would have looked a thousand times better.
