The Real-Life Partners Of The Leading Ladies In TV's Best Sitcom Couples

When we see the likes of Jim and Pam from "The Office" getting engaged at the gas station in the pouring rain or Gloria and Jay from "Modern Family" swapping playful quips about her Colombian traditions, it's hard not to become invested in their romances. In fact, it's a little too easy to forget that the women comprising our favorite sitcom couples are actors with real-life partners at home.

Jennifer Aniston once shared her theory on why "Friends" fans loved her character Rachel Green's long-time on-and-off relationship with Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer) so much. Musing on "Today," she stated, "I think David and I loved each other — we love each other still to this day — so I do think there was something that had to do with that."

Aniston had a point, and she's not the only actor with on-screen chemistry that made us wonder about her off-screen love life. From sitcom couples who actually got together (Remember Jackie and Kelso from "That '70s Show") to TV romances that temporarily spilled off-screen (we're looking at you, Penny and Leonard from "The Big Bang Theory"), to platonic co-stars who stayed just that, these are the real-life partners of the leading ladies in TV's best sitcom couples.

Friends' Ross and Rachel: Jennifer Aniston is loved up with Jim Curtis after two high-profile divorces

On "Friends," Rachel Green and Ross Geller's on-and-off love gripped the nation for years. Off-screen, though, Aniston was half of one of the most famous couples in the world when she and Brad Pitt married in 2000. She filed for divorce in 2005, and Pitt went on to marry and divorce his "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" co-star Angelina Jolie – and there were multiple red flags we could never ignore in Pitt and Jolie's romance. Aniston found happiness in matrimony again for a while, as she married another actor, Justin Theroux, in 2015, but they split in 2017.

It seems Aniston may finally have found her lobster in boyfriend Jim Curtis, though. The actor has kept this romance a little more private than some in her past, but a People source confirmed they were dating in the summer of 2025. "They've been seeing each other for a few months now. They were introduced by a friend and started out as friends," they said, claiming their relationship was still in the casual stages. But a People insider confirmed they were still going strong in early 2026, sharing of the "Along Came Polly" actor and the hypnotherapist, "She's very happy and comfortable. He's just so sweet and supportive of her. He makes her everyday life better."

The Office's Jim and Pam: Jenna Fischer has been married to Lee Kirk since 2010

Pam Halpert (née Beesley) and Jim Halpert were easily one of the most beloved couples on "The Office." But when the cameras stopped rolling, actor Jenna Fischer left her on-screen love interest John Krasinski and went home to her husband Lee Kirk. They married in 2010, and Fischer told Redbook they bonded after she pitched the screenwriter a movie idea (which he rejected). "I was having weekly script dinners with Lee, and I realized, I'm looking at basically the perfect man. It doesn't get better than this," she said. They welcomed their first child, a son named Weston, in 2011 and became parents again in 2014 when their daughter Harper entered the world.

Fischer has gushed about the strong bond she has with her husband on multiple occasions, including sharing how Lee supported her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. "My husband, Lee, was absolutely incredible," she said on "Today." "The most I could do was just get downstairs and sit at the table with a cup of coffee, and he did all the rest."

Prior to Fischer's romance with the filmmaker, she was married to a famous face: James Gunn. The "Blades of Glory" star and Marvel director walked down the aisle in 2000 but announced their split in 2007. Gunn confirmed on Facebook in 2016 that they were still on good terms, though, sharing, "I'm proud of the good relationships I have with most of my exes, but especially Jenna. She's a great person, a true and wonderful friend, and she'll always make me laugh."

How I Met Your Mother's Lily and Marshall: Alyson Hannigan tied the knot with Alexis Denisof in 2003

On "How I Met Your Mother," fans couldn't get enough of Alyson Hannigan's character Lily and her adorable romance with Jason Segel's Marshall. But it was Alexis Denisof who really had the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actor's heart. Hannigan and Denisof met on the set of the Sarah Michelle Gellar-led series (she played Willow Rosenberg, and he was Wesley Wyndam-Pryce).

As Hannigan told The Sun, "It was flirtation at first sight!" But it wasn't love at first sight. "I was trying to pursue him, but he said he didn't want to date somebody he was working with. We developed a great friendship and I started dating someone else," she recalled, revealing that sparks eventually flew on both sides in 1999 when they finally got together. Though she wasn't ready to tie the knot the first time Denisof proposed, she said yes in 2001, and they married two years later.

It was a case of first came love, then came marriage, then a baby in a carriage for these two. Hannigan and Denisof became parents in 2009 when their first child, daughter Satyana, was born, and they were blessed again when she gave birth to their second daughter, Keeva, in 2012. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in 2023, with Hannigan gushing to People, "It really feels like an accomplishment. I'm so proud of us." She added, "The fact that we're so happy now and that I love him even more than I did then is so awesome. We're just like, we're so, so lucky. We found each other."

Parks and Recreation's Leslie and Ben: Amy Poehler declared her love for Joel Lovell at an award show

Amy Poehler's "Parks and Recreation" character Leslie Knope is one of the most beloved sitcom personalities in TV history, and her relationship with the straightlaced Ben Wyatt (played by Adam Scott) had everyone saying "awww" week after week during its seven-season run. But while the two were playing husband and wife on-screen, Poehler had been married to fellow actor Will Arnett since 2003. They welcomed two sons during their marriage, with their eldest child, Archibald, born in 2008, and their youngest, Abel, in 2010. Sadly, he filed for divorce in 2014, but the two stayed friends to become a celeb couple that is total divorce goals.

The "Sisters" actor got back into dating after divorce and, at the time of writing, she's loved up with ex-New York Times editor Joel Lovell. The two were first linked in October 2024, and Poehler sweetly (and very publicly) shared her love for her boyfriend during the 2026 Golden Globe Awards while accepting the gong for Best Podcast for "Good Hang with Amy Poehler." "Thank you to Joel Lovell. I love you. Thank you for everything," she said.

That '70s Show's Jackie and Kelso: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher found love in real life

Though most of our favorite sitcom leading ladies found love with someone other than their on-screen partner, that wasn't the case for "That '70s Show"'s Jackie and Kelso. Actors Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher didn't start dating while filming the show, which wrapped in 2006. It wasn't until 2012 that they realized they were meant for one another after both were involved in serious relationships with other people (Kutcher was married to actor Demi Moore from 2005 until their divorce was finalized in 2013, and Kunis dated "Home Alone" star Macaulay Culkin for nine years before they split in 2012).

Kunis recalled how she reunited with Kutcher on "WTF with Marc Maron" in 2018, noting that they had run into each other at the Golden Globes. "I was looking around and there's a really beautiful man from the back ... I was single. And then he turned around and I was like, 'Oh my God, it's Kutch!' I thought it was the weirdest thing that I was checking this guy out and it was somebody that I'd known forever," she admitted. The "Friends With Benefits" star also revealed their romance started as a hook-up — but Kunis and Kutcher's relationship (which is overflowing with red flags) became much more than casual. In 2014, Kunis gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Wyatt. They married in 2015, and, in 2016, they welcomed their second child, a son named Dimitri.

Friends' Monica and Chandler: Courteney Cox is in a long-term romance with Johnny McDaid

Sitcom fans fell in love with "Friends"' resident clean freak Monica Gellar's romantic relationship with Chandler Bing. Though most viewers didn't see Courteney Cox and the late Matthew Perry's characters' relationship coming, they quickly became one of the most beloved couples to ever hit the small screen. Off it, though, Cox had high-profile romances far away from her co-star. She was first married to fellow actor David Arquette, the father of her only child, Coco Arquette, who was born in 2004. The duo met in 1996 while filming "Scream" and tied the knot in 1999, but separated in 2011 and divorced. Cox has found long-term love again, though, as she's been romantically involved with musician Johnny McDaid for over a decade.

McDaid popped the question to the "Cougar Town" actor in 2014, but the course of true love never did run smooth, and they ended things the following year. They were spotted together again a few months later and officially reconciled soon after. Cox opened up about their split on actor Minnie Driver's podcast, "Questions with Minnie Driver" in 2024, revealing McDaid broke up with her without warning during a therapy session. But it sounds like it was all for the best. "I'm so thankful for that breakup because when we got back together it was a different relationship, but also because it really taught me how I operated in the world," she said.

The Big Bang Theory's Penny and Leonard: Kaley Cuoco had a whirlwind romance with Tom Pelphrey

"The Big Bang Theory" viewers lived through the ups and downs of Kaley Cuoco's character Penny Hofstadter's odd-couple romance with Leonard Hofstadter (played by Johnny Galecki). "The Big Bang Theory" stars were real-life partners for a while, as Cuoco and Galecki dated off-screen from 2008 until 2010, but chose to keep their love under wraps until after they broke up. "It was a wonderful relationship but we never spoke a word about it and never went anywhere together," Cuoco told CBS Watch Magazine (via HuffPost). The two stayed on good terms post-breakup, proving you can be friends with your ex (or at least work with them).

"The Flight Attendant" star went on to marry and divorce Ryan Sweeting and Karl Cook after that, but found lasting love with "As The World Turns" actor Tom Pelphrey. Cuoco revealed on "Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard" that her manager introduced them amid her second divorce. She recalled meticulously scrolling through Pelphrey's Instagram before they'd even met and thinking, "I get this feeling that I'm going to spend my life with him." And she wasn't wrong.

Things moved very quickly when they finally met, as Cuoco made their romance Instagram official in May 2022 and, just five months later, she announced she was pregnant with their first child. Their baby girl, Matilda, was born in April 2023, and they became engaged in 2024. Cuoco proudly showed off a ring on that special finger on Instagram Stories and wrote (via People), "@tommypelphrey didn't think I could fall even more in love with you, but I did."

Modern Family's Haley and Dylan: Sarah Hyland is married to reality TV star Wells Adams

On "Modern Family," Sarah Hyland's Haley Dunphy and her high-school sweetheart Dylan Marshall (played by Reid Ewing) just couldn't stay away from each other. But in real life, Hyland only has eyes for reality TV star Wells Adams. The duo got flirty on X in 2017 after Adams landed a role as the bartender on "Bachelor In Paradise" (just one of the major red flags we noticed in Hyland and Adams' relationship, as she was not single at the time). Hyland made their relationship Instagram official for Halloween 2017. He proposed in 2019, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed their marriage plans by two years. They eventually tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in 2022.

In 2018, Hyland opened up about how Adams supported her amid her health issues (she was born with kidney dysplasia, where the kidney doesn't develop properly). "He's seen me at my worst. He was there through all of that. I think that's why I feel the most beautiful in his eyes, because he still finds me beautiful after seeing all that," she told Self. She also explained how their early days of dating were different from most couples' because of her health. "It was a really intimate start to a relationship to have to go through those hurdles at the very, very, very beginning when you're just even getting to know a person," she said. But is Hyland's stunning transformation reaching its motherhood chapter? Adams shared their plans to have kids one day, telling ET in 2022, "I think eventually [we want kids], but we're both so busy right now."

Everybody Loves Raymond's Debra and Ray: Patricia Heaton loves her husband David Hunt

"Everybody Loves Raymond" stars Patricia Heaton and Ray Romano made a very convincing married couple on the '90s sitcom as their characters, Debra Barone and Ray Barone, tackled life's challenges as parents with three young kids. But it was fellow actor David Hunt who had Heaton's heart. The two met in New York City after Heaton sublet an apartment from him, moved to L.A. together soon after, and tied the knot in 1990. Since then, "The Middle" actor and her real-life partner have welcomed four sons: Sam, John, Joe, and Dan.

"My husband and I just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary and I love him very much," she told Parade in 2014. The star also dished out some marriage advice, sharing, "Marriage is a really wonderful thing, but as hard as I had to work to get where I am professionally, I've had to do the exact same thing in marriage. It's tough to be with one person for the rest of your life, when you both grow at different rates and in different directions. You have to figure out how to grow differently 'together.'" Three years later, she celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary via a throwback photo from their big day posted on Instagram. But Heaton and Hunt's relationship is more than just romantic. The longtime couple also works together; they founded a production company in 2001 called FourBoys.

New Girl's CeCe and Schmidt: Hannah Simone found her person in Jesse Giddens

"New Girl" fans willed Cece Parekh and Winston Schmidt together week after week. But in real life, Hannah Simone (who played Cece alongside Max Greenfield's goofy Schmidt) has had a romance that's much less of a rollercoaster. She married former "E! News" host Jesse Giddings in a private ceremony in 2016, though their marriage wasn't confirmed publicly until the following year. Us Weekly broke the news, announcing that they'd not only tied the knot but were also expecting their first child. The birth of their son was just as hush-hush as the couple shied away from sharing news of his arrival immediately. Instead, Simone's rep confirmed in August 2017 that she'd given birth earlier that month.

The couple didn't share further details of their son's arrival — it comes as no surprise; the two are rarely spotted together. However, they occasionally pop up on one another's social media. In 2019, Giddens gushed over his wife on Instagram via a sweet photo of her in what appeared to be a fancy bar. After it was announced ABC had picked up a series she co-wrote and executive produced (though the series seemingly never made it to air), he wrote, "She's worked so hard for the last 6 months coming up with a phenomenal script and I'm so glad we happened to be on a trip to Cabo this week to celebrate."

Modern Family's Gloria and Jay: Sofia Vergara confirmed her love for Doug Chabbott

Sofia Vergara's Gloria Pritchett and Ed O'Neill's Jay Pritchett may go down in sitcom history as one of the most beloved odd couples on TV. Though the "Modern Family" duo's age difference is above the best age gap science tells us is best for a successful relationship, the actors are still close friends off-screen. But there's nothing romantic here as, at the time of writing, Vergara is dating businessman Doug Chabbott. She made their romance known in December 2024 when she posted a selfie with her boyfriend on Instagram alongside three red heart emojis. A few months later, they were spotted kissing in Italy, and she made it clear where they stood in December 2025 via an Instagram selfie of the two of them with the caption, "Te Am[o]" with a red heart emoji in place of the O.

Vergara was previously involved in a high-profile marriage and divorce with "Magic Mike" star Joe Manganiello, which was doomed from the start. The actors confirmed they were divorcing in 2023 after seven years of marriage, and he said in a statement (via Page Six), "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
