Everything Ariana Grande's Exes Have Said About Her

It's not unusual to have a few things to say about an ex — good or bad — and that's no different for the men who have been in and out of Ariana Grande's life. Grande has taught us some important love lessons via her past romances, and she's dated a handful guys who have been vocal about where they stand with her post-split. But not all of Grande's previous partners are able to speak publicly about the star or her "worst behavior." Citing divorce documents, Page Six reported Grande's former husband Dalton Gomez (the two were married from 2021 until they finalized their divorce in 2024) has been blocked from speaking publicly about the Oscar nominee. "[He cannot] give any interview, write, appear in connection with, or assist or cooperate in the preparation or presentation of any book, article, interview, program or other production or publication of any kind whatsoever concerning the other party," the documents stated.

But that's not the case for the "7 Rings" hitmaker's past boyfriends or her former fiancé. The likes of Pete Davidson, Nathan Sykes, and Ricky Alvarez have had no problem going public with their thoughts on their mutual ex after they said "bye." And they've had a lot to say over the years.

Pete Davidson said 'it's all love' between him and the 'One Last Time' singer

Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande had a true whirlwind romance. A source told People in May 2018 that they were casually dating, but things got serious fast and they were engaged the following month. However, the now former couple called it quits that October. The year after they broke up, the comedian referenced comments the singer and actor had previously made about his manhood during a show in New York. "I don't like that she talked all that s**t for my p****. Everything is huge to her. Why would she tell everyone that I have a huge p****? So that every girl who sees my d**k for the rest of my life is disappointed," he quipped (via People).

In 2020 though, he made more serious comments about what led to their breakup. He told Charlamagne Tha God in a YouTube interview that their relationship deteriorated following the unexpected death of one of Grande's other exes, rapper Mac Miller. "I pretty much knew it was around over after that. That was really horrible, and I can't imagine what that s**t is like. All I do know is that she really loved the s**t out of him, and she wasn't putting on a show or anything," he said.

In 2025, the former "Saturday Night Live" star spoke out about Grande again, revealing where they stood seven years after their breakup. "When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we're not in the same circles, it's all love," he told Page Six. Davidson also shared his hope that his former fiancée would win an Oscar after being nominated for "Wicked" (though the award went to Zoe Saldaña).

Mac Miller confirmed he'd been 'in love' with Ariana Grande after she moved on with Pete Davidson

Mac Miller got candid about his relationship with Ariana Grande following their May 2018 breakup during an interview with Beats 1. The late rapper was discussing his album "SWIMMING" the month after Grande and Pete Davidson announced their engagement when he told host Zane Lowe, "It's not that unique. You know, like, I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years and we worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it's that simple, you know?" He further elaborated on his reaction to Grande getting engaged and shared that people had been reaching out to see if he was okay. "It just all seemed kind of unimportant, the need to show people I was okay," he said. Tragically, the rapper died just two months later.

Miller also spoke publicly about Grande while they were together. During a 2016 Vogue interview, he was asked about one of their collaborations, "My Favorite Part." "Obviously the emotion that we're singing with is real. I'm big about things on music that I make being authentic. But the funny thing is that we made that song before we even got together. We were friends," he shared.

Ricky Alvarez called his ex's songs 'fire' after she mentioned him in 'thank u, next'

Long before we noticed red flags in Ariana Grande's relationship with Ethan Slater, she dated Ricky Alvarez (who served as her backup dancer) for around a year before they split in July 2016. The two appeared to stay on good terms as they were seen out together three years later, though Grande was quick to shut down speculation they'd reconciled romantically. "We're friends everyone take a big ol breather," she wrote on Instagram (via E! News).

Alvarez was one of the lucky (or unlucky) exes to be mentioned on the breakup anthem "thank u, next," which namechecked several of Grande's former partners. He made it clear on his Instagram story how he felt about the lines, "Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh." "Nothing but gratitude," he wrote following the song's release in 2018. "Thank you, next... (those songs are fire tho... you're welcome)," he added, seemingly referring to Grande's previous tracks inspired by their romance (via People). At the time of writing, the two still follow each other on Instagram, suggesting there's no bad blood here.

Jai Brooks called Ariana Grande a 'good girl'

Following Jai Brooks' breakup with Ariana Grande in 2014, he spoke to Capital FM about how he was doing. "I'm good ... I'm not going to let emotions get in the way of anything, that's for sure, because we are too damn busy right now and I'm just moving on, chilling with the boys, getting closer with our fans. So yeah, I'm [okay]," he said (via MTV UK). But that wasn't the only thing he said after calling it quits with the former "Sam and Cat" star, who he'd previously accused of cheating – a major red flag we noticed in Grande's past relationships.

The Australian YouTuber later reflected on their romance during a 2022 YouTube Q&A with his brother, in which he confirmed he and Grande dated for two years when they were teenagers and she was his first girlfriend. "The love was in the air, the love was real ... It's the weirdest situation ever because you're dating the biggest popstar in the world for your first girlfriend. So, for me, it was just like a blur," Brooks said. He added of his true thoughts about the megastar, "She was a really good girl but it was just right when she was breaking out into stardom," admitting people still bring up their past relationship to him daily.

Nathan Sykes asked his 'friend' Ariana Grande to collaborate on a song with him following their split

Ariana Grande famously started dating Nathan Sykes, a former member of the British boyband The Wanted, around August 2013, but they called it quits in December. That didn't stop the two collaborating on a remix of the song "Over and Over Again" in 2016 though, and Sykes opened up about where he stood with the singer when releasing the track. "I'm delighted that I'm able to share this with not only a friend of mine but also somebody who is incredibly talented," Sykes said in a statement (via E! News).

He also spoke to ET about asking his former girlfriend to be on the project, sharing of the conversation they had. "I was like, 'It's only as awkward as everyone else makes it. ... If we don't make it awkward, then at the end of the day, after a couple of weeks, it's not going to be awkward anymore,'" he said. "It's not weird to me at all. I think the most important thing for me is that she's an incredible vocalist and I really think she brings something great to the song."

Two years later, Sykes spoke candidly about Grande again when she released "thank u, next" after fans noticed he wasn't mentioned amongst some of her other exes, like Ricky Alvarez and Mac Miller. But Sykes clearly didn't mind. "That's good," he said when a TMZ paparazzo informed him he wasn't name checked by his ex, though he was still full of praise for Grande's music. "I hear it's fantastic, so that's amazing," he added.
