We Can't Ignore The Red Flags In Carrie Underwood's Marriage

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher look like they have the perfect marriage. They tied the knot in 2010 and have welcomed two sons since then, but take a peek behind the scenes and there are a few red flags that can't be ignored. Including how little they're seen together in public.

Underwood and Fisher haven't been snapped together at a major event since "Opry 100: A Live Celebration" in March 2025. He also skipped out on several potential appearances with his wife prior to that, as they previously hadn't walked a red carpet together since the 2022 CMA Awards. Underwood was even quizzed about her hubby's whereabouts when she attended the 2023 CMT Awards solo, and told CMT (via People), "My husband's got the kiddos. He's always holding down the fort while I'm out doing stuff like this." Fisher doesn't have to attend every event. However, seeing as he used to be such a red carpet staple alongside the "Out of That Truck" hitmaker and has been by her side multiple times since they welcomed their first child in 2015 (he attended the CMT Awards with her in 2016, 2018, and 2019,) his regular absences have become eyebrow raising.

Though Underwood (who's had a stunning transformation) and Fisher may have an understanding about him no longer tagging along to her work events, if she urges him not to attend, it's a major red flag. As Jonathan Bennett, certified counselor, life coach, and dating and relationship coach, warned while speaking to Romper, "If your partner's employer offers social events that involve families and significant others and you're not invited, it says a lot about [their] commitment level to you. If the relationship is solid, [they] should want to show you off at work!" And there are plenty more potential red flags here.

They don't acknowledge one another on social media like they used to

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher used to gush over each other online regularly, with both sharing adorable snaps in celebration of everything from Valentine's Day, to anniversaries, to each other's birthdays. But that all stopped. Fisher no longer seems to use his Instagram account (he hasn't posted on his grid since April 2023,) but Underwood's is still very active, though she chooses not to shine the spotlight on her relationship. Fisher hasn't appeared on his wife's Instagram grid since September 2024, when they went fly fishing together.

Of course, the important thing is that their marriage is strong in real life, not performative for social media. However, it's strange that the duo that once shared so much of their lives with the world (and loved a couple selfie!) now barely acknowledge one another online. A source told Daily Mail they may have stepped back to shut out the haters, but behavior and relationship expert Patrick Wanis, PhD, told Nicki Swift dialing back their social media presence could actually cause them more strife. "It creates a vacuum. And without public information, speculation fills that gap and vacuum. Fans and tabloids start to cast doubt: 'What's going on? Are they breaking up?' Quickly, that speculation can turn into pressure, which ironically brings its own form of stress — the very thing they were trying to escape from in the first place," he explained.

He loves hunting, but she's vegetarian

It's natural for opposites to attract, but in Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher's case, their differing lifestyles could be a problem. Underwood has been open about her vegetarianism, telling Self in 2017 she made the choice as a child after learning her family were raising cows to sell for meat. "It just freaked me out," Underwood (who's changed a lot since then) said, sharing her desire to become vegan. Fisher, though, is an avid meat eater, but his wife won't cook it for him. "If he wants meat, he gon' have to make that himself," Underwood even said on "Rachael Ray" in 2020 (via Taste of Country).

While one partner eating meat and the other not may not be a dealbreaker, this couple take things one step further — because Fisher is an avid hunter too. The former hockey player founded his own hunting brand and has posed on Instagram holding deer antlers. In the fourth instalment of their web series "Mike and Carrie: God & Country" – Fisher lamented, "Carrie does not like hunting one bit," to which she quipped, "If he could be a vegan, vegetarian, my life would be almost perfect."

They also elaborated their lifestyle differences in the first episode, as Underwood shared, "I love animals and I love life so much that I always swore I would never marry a hunter as a child. Not in a million years." Fisher even shared that Underwood believed he'd stop hunting when they got married. They've made it this far, but it's vital they continue to talk through their differences and understand the other's point of view. If one decides to try and change the other, disagreeing and forcing such fundamental views onto their partner could cause major problems.

Her busy workload has reportedly caused problems

Killer leg queen Carrie Underwood is a busy woman. Not only is she a touring artist traveling the country, she's also a judge on "American Idol," has her own fitness app, and her own SiriusXM channel. That means a lot of time away from Mike Fisher and her children, which has reportedly caused tension. "For the past several years, [Carrie]'s been packing her calendar and pushing herself to the limit, which has meant long spells on the road and away from Mike," a source told Star in 2026. Though the insider claimed the ex-hockey player has worked hard to keep the home fires burning, they suggested he was reaching the end of his tether being a stay-at-home dad. "[He] is at a point now where he desperately wants his wife back," they said.

But Star's claims are far from the first time rumors of trouble in paradise have swirled due to Underwood's glittering career while Fisher stays home. "Mike's feeling a little underappreciated ... He has dreams, too," a Radar Online source claimed in 2022. The following year, another source purported the former athlete wasn't happy about the idea of Underwood extending her now ended Las Vegas residency. "He's very traditional, and while he loves that Carrie has a career, he believes her role as a wife and a mother should be a priority," they told SheFinds. "[Fisher] didn't sign up to be the full-time parent, and he's annoyed she's missed family events," they added. If he really isn't happy about Underwood continuing in her full throttle career, he could easily start to feel resentful or unfulfilled in their marriage and that could signal major problems.

Mike Fisher loves to go out, but Carrie Underwood wants to stay home

When Carrie Underwood finally gets to spend some time at home amid her busy schedule, she likes to stay there. Fisher though? He wants to head out. "I don't want to go to restaurants. I don't want to travel. I don't want to go anywhere. I love being at home. I would literally never leave my house. My husband's an extrovert. He has, like, a million friends, and we're always hanging out with them and stuff like that. So ... we have to balance each other out," Underwood admitted on Apple Music in 2022, clarifying they don't seriously fight about their differences, but do have to make a lot of compromises. "I'm like, 'We don't need to go out all the time.' So I kind of pull him back a little bit. And then he's like, 'We need to go somewhere sometimes, so can you please go and interact with other people?'" she added.

It's understandable why Fisher, who spends a lot of time home with their kids, would want to enjoy some time out of the house with Underwood when they get time together. However, if the couple are constantly having to negotiate over socializing or staying in, that's a possible red flag. It doesn't have to be a dealbreaker, but it's vital they continue to be flexible and carefully consider each other's needs so neither suffers from burnout or feels they're always compromising with no reprieve. "Both partners should express their needs clearly and listen to each other with empathy," Ian Jackson, licensed mental health counselor and clinical director at Recovery Unplugged, suggested to Glam of how to make an introvert/extrovert romance work.
