4 Awkward MAGA Marriage Moments That Hint Divorce Is On The Table
It turns out that single MAGA men are having a harder time finding love than other demographic groups. Newsweek reports that 77% of women refuse to date someone who voted for President Donald Trump. "I will not feel bad when men whine about being lonely and then support Trump in the same breath," wrote one Reddit user.
But MAGA men aren't just having trouble finding love. They may also have a harder time keeping it. On social media, some users have issued a call for women to divorce their Republican husbands, and several prominent MAGA women have eyebrow raising marriages. In an op-ed for The Guardian, writer Rebecca Solnit argued that parts of MAGA seem intent on denying bodily autonomy and fundamental rights to women — not exactly the stuff of high romance. In fact, plenty of high profile MAGA marriages have, at points, looked to be on the verge of divorce.
Vice President JD Vance attracted the wrong kind of public attention with Erika Kirk
JD Vance got a little too friendly with Erika Kirk at an October 2025 Turning Point USA event, following the death of Erika's husband, Charlie Kirk. The pair embraced when Vance walked on stage, and Erika's hand went to the back of his head while his hands went to her waist. It looks seriously intimate, which is why the video clip quickly went viral. Rumors that the pair were having an affair swirled across the internet. "That ruffling of the hair thing she's doing ... yeah, that's a normal hug," wrote one Reddit user. "Normal if you know each other in the carnal way."
It didn't help that Kirk had introduced Vance by comparing him to her late husband: "I do see some similarities of my husband in JD — in Vice President JD Vance. I do. And that's why I am so blessed to be able to introduce him tonight." It gave the impression that Kirk had more than a friendly regard for the Vance.
The rumors were only further inflamed by critical public comments Vance has made about his wife. In particular, he has repeatedly expressed that he wishes his wife, Usha Vance, shared his Christian beliefs. Some speculated that Vance was preparing for a mercenary divorce and subsequent marriage to someone who is seemingly more on brand for his MAGA base, like Kirk. "Vance's politics have never lined up with having a non-white wife and he'll probably need one if he hopes to succeed Trump as president," wrote one Reddit commenter.
Melania Trump swatted her husband's hand away -- more than once
Some onlookers have speculated that first lady Melania Trump doesn't exactly love her husband, President Donald Trump. In part, that's due to Melania's frigid public demeanor. At her husband's second inauguration, her gloomy appearance led internet users to guess she wasn't as happy about his political win as he was. But even more awkward than her apparent lack of enthusiasm is the way she has repeatedly rebuked Donald's bids for physical affection, especially handholding.
In 2017, during an appearance in Israel, the president reached for Melania's hand while walking, but she slapped him away. "She doesn't get paid enough," joked one YouTube commenter. Since then, she's repeated the move on a number of occasions, including at the 2020 presidential debate. Her apparent disdain for her husband's touch even sparked a flurry of "Free Melania" memes. "I don't think I've ever seen such awkward body language between two public personas, it's just embarrassing," body language expert Tracey Cox told the Irish Independent. "She's unhappy, she doesn't look towards him or ever lean towards him, it's a public battle of who is going to come out on top."
Cheryl Hines appeared without her wedding ring
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, are newcomers to the MAGA circle, but that hasn't stopped people from speculating about the toll politics could be taking on their marriage. Those rumors heated up when Hines appeared on the red carpet in September 2024 without her wedding ring. Eagle-eyed observers guessed it might mean that Hines was officially over her wedding vows. At the time, Kennedy was campaigning alongside President Donald Trump, and was embroiled in a scandal over an inappropriate relationship with reporter Olivia Nuzzi. "This whole thing has been one big public humiliation ritual for Cheryl," observed one Reddit user.
Of course, Hines and Kennedy's marriage has always had some glaring red flags. But observers reading between the lines wondered if the couple's marital strife was more about politics than infidelity. "She knew she was getting in with a Kennedy, who are known for being infamous womanizers," an anonymous source told Page Six. "But she never signed up to be a member of Trump World!" The couple's political strife has certainly leaked out into the open. For example, in 2022, Hines publicly contradicted Kennedy with an X post firing back at insensitive comments her husband made that compared vaccine mandates to Nazi Germany, calling his statement "reprehensible and offensive."
Ivanka showed up to court alone
There are plenty of red flags in Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's relationship that we can't ignore. But perhaps the couple has never appeared as close to splitsville as in 2023, when Ivanka showed up to testify in her father's New York civil fraud suit and Kushner was nowhere to be found. Kushner reportedly stayed in Miami. Given that the Trump family appeared to be circling the wagons, Kushner's absence — and apparent failure to support his wife during such a harrowing moment — suggested serious fractures in his union with Ivanka.
Ivanka's solo appearance came amid other rumors of tension for this high-profile MAGA couple. "They're always fighting and can barely contain their growing animosity for each other, even when they appear in public," an anonymous source told Radar in 2023. Perhaps that personal strife helps to explain both figures' absences from the political world during President Donald Trump's second term.
