The Most Extravagant Celeb Wedding Dresses Of All Time

If there's one thing we know about celebrity weddings, it's that they're big business. When famous faces tie the knot, they can easily find themselves lumbered with a six-figure bill, and, all too often, much of that is spent on the perfect wedding dress. Or dresses, in some cases. Brides reported in 2026 that the average U.S. bride spends between $500 and $4,000 on their ensemble for their big day. but famous faces regularly blow that estimate out of the water.

Many of our favorite celebs have opted for totally over-the-top dresses, usually enlisting the help of major fashion houses to create lavish custom pieces that us mere mortals could only dream of getting our hands on. From the more than 2 million sequins on one of Priyanka Chopra's wedding dresses to the 1,000 handkerchiefs stitched together to create one of Jennifer Lopez's three (yes, three) Ralph Lauren gowns for her big day, these extravagant celeb wedding dresses left our jaws on the floor.

Celine Dion's dress took 1,000 hours to make

Celine Dion's instantly recognizable voice is anything but lowkey, so it makes sense that she wanted her ballgown wedding dress to be just as iconic and expressive as she is. When she tied the knot with the late René Angélil in 1994, it was far from a celeb wedding that wasn't a total spectacle. Her silk dress by Mirella and Steve Gentile featured an almost 20-foot train with beaded long sleeves, a beaded bodice, a sweetheart neckline, and a massive skirt. "The dress couldn't have been big enough," she later told Vogue. Dion, who's worn some spicy outfits, also spoke to the press around the time of her big day, sharing (via People), "I wanted a girl's dress. I wanted a princess dress like we dream in our dreams." The singer added of the bougee ensemble, "It's not easy to ... move with that, and it's very heavy too, but I don't regret it. It's once in my life, and I'm very happy." Vogue France claimed it took 1,000 hours to make the dress.

But it wasn't just her clothing that was overly excessive. The "My Heart Will Go On" hitmaker paired it with an equally lavish headpiece adorned with 2,000 Swarovski crystals. It was so heavy that (it weighed over 6 pounds!) it injured her head. "When we removed the tiara, I had a cut because the pressure was too much," she told Vogue. "The next day, I wake up I look at myself in the mirror, I have a bump the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead ... I had to be on antibiotics for about three weeks." Not that she minded. "When you're so happy, there's no weight, there's no problem, there's no pain," she added.

Nicola Peltz Beckham was in conversation with Valentino Haute Couture for a year over her luxury dress

When Nicola Peltz Beckham married Brooklyn Beckham in 2022, she wore an elegant Valentino Haute Couture dress. She told British Vogue it took a year of back-and-forth between her and the iconic fashion house to create the custom garment, and she even visited Valentino's Rome headquarters specifically to discuss her look. Peltz also had two fittings in the States, where she was visited at home by the high-fashion company's head seamstress. "It was the ultimate couture experience," Peltz's stylist Leslie Fremar, who also helped design the creation, said. "It was a no-brainer," Peltz added about working with Valentino.

But the already lavish white dress could have been even more excessive. The original design featured more fabric, but Fremar revealed she and Valentino opted to tone things down. "We didn't have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery," she said. For added flair, Peltz wore handmade gloves made from French lace that stretched as far as her bicep, as well as a veil that was almost as long as her dress.

However, in 2026, Beckham told a different story about Peltz's wedding dress journey amid his very public feud with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. Beckham claimed his fashion designer mom was originally enlisted to design Peltz's dress. "My [mom] cancelled making Nicola's dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress," he wrote on Instagram Stories (via Sky News). However, Peltz's chat with British Vogue seemed to contradict that take.

Kim Kardashian may have spent $500,000 on her custom Givenchy Haute Couture gown

Kim Kardashian doesn't do things by halves, so it's no surprise she pulled out all the stops to look her best when she married rapper Ye, formerly Kanye West. The reality star wore a custom Givenchy Haute Couture gown (custom designed by Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci) for their 2014 nuptials, which Bridal Guide estimated could be worth as much as $500,000. The form-fitting gown – one of the Kardashian clan's best wedding dresses – featured cut-outs around her waist, an open back, a band around her waist, and long, lace sleeves. It also had a flattering mermaid-style bottom that was covered in handmade, intricate lace. Tisci incorporated carefully placed sheer panels specifically designed to flatter her figure, making this dress truly fitted to Kardashian's famous form.

"I am so excited for how my dress turned out, it is gorgeous. Everything is so perfect," Kardashian said of the garment in a December 2014 episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" (via Grazia). "It is probably the most beautiful dress I have seen in my life. It is really a dream come true," she added. The reality star paired the dress with a super-long, silk veil. She also wore a second dress to celebrate tying the knot with West (whom she filed for divorce from in 2021), and slipped into a plunging Balmain gown for the reception.

Queen Elizabeth II was given extra rations to make her dream dress a reality

Royal gowns are some of the most famous, extravagant celebrity wedding dresses, and the late Queen Elizabeth II (then known as Princess Elizabeth) proved it when she married the late Prince Philip in 1947. Though England was experiencing rationing following the end of World War II, the monarch was allowed 200 extra clothing rations to create her dream dress. Proving what a big deal the ensemble was, fellow Brits even sent the monarch their own rations, though she wasn't allowed to use them for legal reasons.

But the royal's rations were clearly put to good use. Queen Elizabeth II's long-sleeved ivory gown was made by Norman Hartnell from duchesse satin and featured 10,000 seed pearls shipped from the U.S., which would have been no easy task back then. But they weren't the only embellishments that made the royal's dress sparkle. The U.K.'s longest-reigning monarch also wore an intricate floral and star-shaped embellishments on her dress, crystals, and a 15-foot pearl and crystal train that started at her shoulders.

But all that extravagance didn't come cheap. Brides estimated the iconic royal wedding dress could have cost as much as $1.6 million, accounting for inflation. The dress was so opulent and beloved by the public that it was displayed at the royal residence, St. James' Palace, before touring several cities across the U.K.

Angelababy's dress took five months to make and featured 100 hand-cut rose bouquets

Chinese actor and singer Angelababy wore a custom Christian Dior dress for her 2015 wedding with fellow star Huang Xiaoming. Dior confirmed on Instagram that the dress took five months to create and was made from ivory satin organza. Forbes reported that the iconic fashion house used 115 feet of ivory satin organza and a further 165 feet of tulle. The wide, white V-neck dress skimmed her shoulders and featured semi-sheer lace sleeves with small buttons from her wrist to her mid-forearm. The extravagant dress also had close to 100 rose Chantilly lace bouquets (cut by hand, of course) plus an impressive 10-foot train.

But that wasn't enough for this star. Angelababy paired the ethereal dress with an ornate, sparkly, pearl tiara and a long veil. Amazingly, for a dress so bespoke (and expensive), Angelababy only had two fittings, as work was mainly conducted on a luxury mannequin that matched her measurements exactly. It has not been made public how much she paid for the designer gown, but the price was likely a drop in the ocean considering Forbes reported the couple's big day cost around $31 million.

One of Priyanka Chopra's wedding dresses featured over 2 million sequins

Priyanka Chopra went all out in the fashion stakes when she married Jonas Brothers star Nick Jonas in 2018. She wore 12 dresses over the course of their days-long, opulent wedding celebration, which incorporated Christian and Indian elements, but one dress stood out for its over-the-top extravagance. She stunned in a custom, ornate white gown with a sweetheart neckline, plus an intricate, sheer lace coat that featured small buttons all the way down (135, to be exact) and had a lace collar.

The unique wedding dress and overlay were designed by Ralph Lauren, and the fashion house confirmed on Instagram that it took 700 spools of thread, 5,600 beads, and 11,632 Swarovski crystals to get the look. Ralph Lauren also revealed on Instagram that 2,412,000 sequins were incorporated into the design to create the dress's stunning shine. To make the coat element even more unique, Ralph Lauren revealed Chopra (who also wore a 75-foot veil) had multiple phrases embroidered inside it, including her and Jonas' wedding date.

Chopra had four fittings across the globe, making the gorgeous dress more well-traveled than some people. To ensure her custom dress fit just right, she tried it on at Ralph Lauren's New York headquarters, as well as undergoing further fittings in Paris, Mumbai, and Jodhpur. Unsurprisingly, considering all the detail that went into the designer gown, it took 15 people 1,826 hours to finish the look.

Kate Middleton's dressmakers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes to keep it clean

Kate Middleton, aka Catherine, Princess of Wales, is another Royal who pulled out all the stops for her wedding day — particularly when it came to her dress. In 2011, on the day she officially became a royal by marrying the man now known as William, Prince of Wales, Kate wore one of the most stunning, modern, and most famous royal gowns in history. It featured a sweetheart neckline with lace over her chest and arms, plus a slight collar. The white dress, which was far from one of Kate's fashion mishaps, highlighted her waist via its fitted bodice and full skirt. Brides estimated the gown, designed by Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton, could cost as much as $617,000 with inflation considered.

That pricey figure is the sum of multiple extravagant elements, as it had 50 people working on it over several months. Embroiderer Chloe Savage spoke to People about her work on the gown, sharing that much of it was done in secret at Hampton Court Palace, the former home of Henry VIII. "When we were making the dress, we had to keep everything a total secret," she said, revealing that alterations were made up until the day before the royal wedding. The lace was also handstitched in the U.K. at the Royal School of Needlework, which BBC News reported that the embroiderers were instructed to wash their hands every 30 minutes to prevent the gown from getting dirty. It's little surprise that, with all this effort, Kate's wedding dress is so beloved by fans. In a 2014 wrappler.com poll, it beat the likes of Kim Kardashian's gown to be crowned the British public's favorite wedding dress (via Hello!).

Lily Collins' wedding dress featured Swarovski-beaded flowers

Lily Collins is another star who enlisted iconic fashion house Ralph Lauren to create her wedding dress when she tied the knot with Charlie McDowell in 2021. The "Emily In Paris" star opened up about the painstaking process on Instagram, confirming it took 200 hours to create the stunning dress. It featured a sweetheart-neckline dress under a lace overlay, which stretched up her neck and all the way down her arms. The actor barely showed any skin (aside from the keyhole back) in the modest gown, as she paired the number with a matching all-lace, cathedral-length cape, complete with a hood.

"It's my ultimate dream combination of Western Americana and British Victorian ... every detail was perfect — from the Calais-Caudry lace to the Swarovski-beaded micro flowers and silk organza petals," she wrote, alongside several photos of her in the bespoke gown. "It's the most beautiful, memorable gown I will ever wear and I couldn't have imagined it any other way..." she added of her stunning celeb wedding dress that was outside the box

Princess Diana's gown had a 25-foot train

Princess Diana's wedding gown when she married the royal now known as King Charles has long been regarded as one of the most opulent and famous dresses in history. The massive garment was designed by David Emanuel and Elizabeth Emanuel and featured a ruffle and bow over her chest and shoulders, long sleeves, and a massive skirt. It was made from silk taffeta and antique lace that once belonged to Queen Mary, and had a 25-foot train that dropped jaws. The latter Emanuel told BBC News the bodice was adorned with 10,000 pearls and sequins. The sleeves were created using lace from British company Roger Watson Laces (who also provided material for the veil). The dress was so big that it barely fit inside Diana's transport to her wedding venue.

"It was all about drama and making Diana a fairytale princess," Emanuel told British Vogue of the inspiration for the custom gown, which she co-created in 1981. "The gown was typical of early '80s style — overblown, romantic, flouncy — but we had to get it right because we knew it would go down in history ... We had no guidelines or instructions, so we came up with this amazing, completely [over the top] gown that we knew would stand out on the steps of St Paul's," she added. Brides reported the dress may have cost around $115,000.

One of Jennifer Lopez's three wedding dresses took 700 hours and 30 people to make

Jennifer Lopez knows how to make a statement with her clothing (Lopez has repeatedly nailed trends while staying true to her sexy style), so she wasn't about to dull her own sparkle when it came to her wedding day with Ben Affleck. The "Ain't Your Mama" hitmaker didn't stop at just one lavish, designer gown. Instead, the "Maid In Manhattan" star (who finalized her divorce from her fellow actor in 2025) strutted her stuff in three custom Ralph Lauren dresses while the then-couple celebrated their nuptials with friends and family.

J-Lo ensured all eyes were on her in a white, plunging wedding dress with pearl embellishments that draped over her shoulders and decolletage. It also featured several Swarovski crystals, and People reported that it took 30 individuals 700 hours to make it. Then there was the mermaid silhouette white gown she also slipped into, which Vogue claimed used 500 meters of fabric. It had a long train created by sewing 1,000 handkerchiefs together. The "Kiss Of The Spider Woman" actor accessorized the garment with an equally melodramatic cathedral-length veil. For her third custom wedding dress, Lopez opted for a fashion-forward gown with a mermaid bottom and brought even more drama via the gown's hood, which was removable. That dress featured Swarovski crystals, too, which added sparkle around the plunging keyhole neckline.
