The Rookie Fashion Mistake Casey DeSantis Can't Stop Making
As we've seen time and again, MAGA women have an interesting take on fashion. Whether it's Karoline Leavitt's frumpy work outfits or Pam Bondi's bizarre obsession with outdated trends that keep her looking like she's trapped in 1975, it seems that if you're on Team Trump, every day is a fashion crisis. Now Casey DeSantis, wife of Florida governor Ron DeSantis, has joined the ranks of MAGA women who are desperately in need of a stylist.
More than once, at various events, DeSantis has paired dresses with opera-length gloves. While there's nothing inherently wrong with this, according to some experts, it's a styling choice that requires careful consideration. "Gloves are elegant, timeless, and distinctly feminine, they instantly lift an outfit and deliver a major style statement when worn correctly," style consultant and etiquette expert, Jo Hayes, told Daily Mail. On the other hand, when they're not worn correctly, which seems to be the case with DeSantis, it's a major faux pas.
It's worth noting that opera gloves have that name for a reason — because they're meant to be worn to the opera, galas, and similar events. So when DeSantis' sported a long, black pair that went well past her forearms at daytime 2025 Florida Heroes Reception, you can imagine she looked glaringly out of place.Folks on the internet were quick to notice this faux pas, with one fashion writer, Ella Davi, pointing out on X this is far from the first time DeSantis has made this rookie mistake.
while we're on the subject of casey desantis, here's another example of her committing two glove-wearing sins while trying to emulate "traditional america". 1) gloves worn in the daytime should not extend past the wrist 2) you're not supposed to wear black gloves w light colors https://t.co/pyR7Me6i7c pic.twitter.com/x666IYe5UJ

DeSantis could avoid being mocked if she took the time to educate herself on this timeless accessory
While we're not exactly sure when DeSantis started this whole opera glove thing, looking at her Instagram, it's not new. There's actually a photo as far back as 2023 of DeSantis trying to make Camelot happen with the same fervor that Gretchen Wieners tried to make "fetch" happen in 2004's "Mean Girls." Understandably, this fashion faux pas has resulted in DeSantis being dragged, because fun fact: while some fashion rules are made to be broken, the rules surrounding how one is supposed to wear long gloves is not.
It's possible DeSantis believes that her gloves are channeling the sophistication of Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy — frankly, who hasn't thought this about themselves from time-to-time — but in her case, it comes off as bad cosplay because of the color and length mismatch. TikToker Suzanne Lambert posted a takedown of DeSantis' black opera gloves in March 2025. In her video, Lambert further broke down how long gloves shouldn't be worn with tea-length dresses. She added that the Florida governor's wife also broke the rule of pairing black gloves with a light-colored dress. Traditionally, lighter-colored dresses should be paired with a glove that is the same color, or beige.
