Why You'll Never Catch Demi Moore Following The Short Hair Rule For Older Women
Demi Moore may have had a stunning style transformation since her divorce from Ashton Kutcher, but the one thing that has remained the same is her long locks. The "Ghost" star is known for her signature waist-length hair, usually worn super sleek, and although she's in her 60s, you won't see her chopping off her strands for a more practical 'do anytime soon. "It feels most like me. Being able to change my look with wigs and pieces feeds my need for change, but at the end of the day, I love taking it down seeing my hair fall past my waist. It's like coming home," she told People.
While there are plenty of low-maintenance haircuts perfect for older women, Moore is defying the rule that those of a certain age should go shorter. "[We often hear] that as women get older, they shouldn't have long hair. And for some reason, to me, I didn't buy it. I didn't believe it, and it didn't make sense to me why that had to be the case," she shared with Glamour. The actor noted seeing women in menopause go for the chop, adding, "I was looking around and seeing they all were kind of cutting their hair in a very almost masculine way, just desexualizing themselves." Still, fans of Moore may recall her iconic pixie in "Ghost," as well as her buzzed cut in "G.I. Jane," and while she's attached to her long locks, the Hollywood star is not afraid of going back to her short roots for a role.
Demi Moore rocked different styles before committing to her long hair
In 1990, Demi Moore took a stunning leap from long to short hair when she landed her role in "Ghost." It turned out that she had made the decision all on her own, telling People, "I was a first-time mother and went on a vacation to Paris. And I'd been carrying around a picture in my wallet of Isabella Rossellini with this gorgeous short haircut for years, waiting for the opportunity." Moore walked into a hair salon and asked for the 'do, and while her new look shocked the filmmakers, they ultimately came around to the idea of her character having a pixie cut.
Moore changed up her look again for a role — this time, a shoulder-length lob for "Landman" — which she shared in an Instagram post in July 2024. It was likely a wig, but the color matched her natural brunette tresses. It was certainly a departure from Moore's waist-long hair, but the voluminous style was fitting for her Texas-based character. Fans loved the new look, and one declared, "She is so hot in this haircut." Long or short, Moore continues to prove that all hairstyles look good on her at any age.
