Meghan Trainor's Worst Wig Looks Are Hard To Look At

Meghan Trainor, who is practically unrecognizable after her weight loss transformation, has consistently experimented with her image throughout her music career, especially when it comes to hair. Wigs and extensions have long been a part of the pop star's style. However, they haven't just been for the sake of creativity; they were also often out of necessity. Trainor has been open about the damage her already-naturally thin hair sustained early in her career when she was in and out of extensions and changing colors too frequently.

In a 2023 interview with StyleCaster, the "Made You Look" singer admitted that once she became a pop star, extensions and wigs quickly became a part of the routine. She had become so reliant on the added volume and length that she felt uncomfortable without them. But, ultimately, the aftermath of all of the hair experimentation left the artist with severely weakened, damaged hair. After years of extreme hair routines, wigs became less of a styling choice and more of a way to protect her natural tresses.

That explains why the artist's looks have almost always included some kind of wig or hairpiece. And while wigs can be flawless when properly executed, they rely heavily on illusion. When that illusion breaks — for any reason — the result can look seriously unnatural, frumpy, and distractingly obvious. Unfortunately, that's something that's happened a few too many times for Trainor.

The Powerpuff Girls wig that was hard to pull off

In 2020, Meghan Trainor, who has always been one of the celebs open and honest about wearing wigs and extensions, leaned fully into a "Powerpuff Girls" cosplay moment for a Christian Cowan show, and of course, she wore a wig. While the reference was clear and playful, the execution fell flat. The extra-long pigtails with thick blue sections looked stiff and ultra-shiny, giving off major synthetic, costume-like vibes rather than a polished finish. Also, the severe center part and layerless, blunt length worked against her, bringing too much attention to the width of her jawline.

The blond bob wig that looked too stiff

A stiff, blond bob-style wig is another one of Meghan Trainor's hairpieces that felt unmistakably artificial. It could be the way Trainor's son was clinging to her or just the stiff styling of the wig itself, but the hair appeared to lift and float unnaturally. The exaggerated volume and overly rounded shape created a heavy, helmet-like effect that felt more dated than chic. It also aged her quite a bit, evoking more of an '80s news anchor vibe than an effortlessly modern look.

The wig that felt completely unnecessary

Meghan Trainor wears so many wigs and hair extensions, she's evolved into one of those celebs people can't recognize with their natural hair color. The natural redhead loves to give herself new looks for new albums and performances, but her platinum, Barbie-blonde, retro-inspired wig entirely missed the mark. It's clear the overly voluminous curls were meant to channel vintage Hollywood glam, but the exaggerated shape made the wig look stiff and overly deliberate. Instead of appearing soft and glamorous, it came off heavy and ultimately fell flat. The costume-like quality of the wig overshadowed the rest of her otherwise polished, sexy look.

The wig that felt more show girl than pop star glam

This might be one of our least favorite wigs that Meghan Trainor has ever worn, largely because it was so distracting and overly theatrical for a pop star's performance. The unnatural rounding, then the exaggerated curls stacked on top of the heavy bangs, make this another helmet-like wig. It's truly impossible to ignore. Instead of moving naturally, the hair looks stiff and posed. Honestly? Meghan's naturally thin hair, styled with a bit of texture or light volume, would have looked far more modern and flattering than this wig.

The wig with bangs that didn't look natural at all

While probably one of her better wigs, Meghan Trainor's updo with bangs still felt unnaturally rigid, especially when compared to how natural her real hair tends to look. The updo itself was polished, but the bangs sat almost too perfectly across her forehead, making the wig more obvious. The lack of flow made the style feel more manufactured than natural. This would've been another one of those moments in which Meghan Trainor's natural hair with a little bit of hairstylist magic would've been more than enough and far more flattering than a carefully placed wig.

The wig that felt like a disguise

When she rocked a long blond 'do with bangs, it was the details that quickly gave the wig away. The bangs felt disconnected from the rest of the style, rather than flowing naturally into it. While that separation alone made the hair look artificial, the overly cool-toned flat blond shade only added to the artifice. The severe lack of warmth and dimension made the hair stand out against Meghan Trainor's features. Rather than enhancing the chic ensemble with a leather trench coat, the wig just overwhelmed the look and drew attention to itself. Overall, it gave the whole moment an odd, undercover-spy vibe instead of an effortlessly polished one.

Another wig where the bangs were a dead giveaway

When she appeared on the "Jennifer Hudson Show," Trainor's bangs were a dead giveaway that she was rocking some hairpieces. But they also revealed something else: Fringe-heavy hairstyles don't suit Meghan Trainor. It's clear the goal was to make her hair appear lush and thick, but the effect just felt too forced to look flattering. Not only did her bangs sit too prominently on her forehead, but they also overpowered her features and just threw off the balance of the look. The added fringe made the wig feel too heavy and obvious, rather than allowing it to create the illusion of natural volume.
