Nicole Kidman's Worst Wig Looks Are Hard To Look At
It's no secret that Nicole Kidman has worn wigs throughout her career. It's been obvious because the "Babygirl" actor changes up her look so rapidly. At the 2025 Met Gala, for example, the star sported a short, multi-tonal brunette and blond 'do that was slicked back on one side with one strand down over the right side of her face. But, just three days later, she was back to long hair on the Academy of Country Music Awards red carpet, sporting her signature, strawberry blond locks straight and down past her chest. The A-lister addressed the fascination around her changing locks on "Sunrise" shortly after, sharing, "At the Met Gala ... Everyone's like, 'Did you chop your hair off?' I'm like, no, I did not." She also lamented, "As you know, I love changing my hair." And we do know, because Kidman has had a dramatic hair evolution.
But there's a reason we hardly ever see Kidman's actual hair instead of wigs, and she's certainly had a few in her arsenal over the years. Unfortunately, though, not all of them have been good. In fact, as much as it pains us to say it, some of the "A Family Affair" star's wigs have been downright hard to look at.
Her 2025 Cannes Film Festival wig contrasted too much with her natural hair color
Nicole Kidman caused a stir at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival thanks to her obvious wig. To make the hairpiece look more natural, the actor pulled two sections of the front of her real hair out — but that only made the piece look more off. Kidman's locks were slightly cooler-toned than the warm, red gold of the wig, which stopped her real hair and the hairpiece from blending properly. Instead, the contrast only highlighted that she was wearing a wig.
Nicole Kidman's short Roar wig was too shiny to be real
In 2021, Nicole Kidman shared a gorgeous photo from the set of "Roar" on Instagram — only, her short style was very clearly a wig. The choppy piece appeared shiny and plastic-looking as she posed next to a rainbow, and the tousled texture was a little too stiff, making it look unnatural. Fans couldn't help but comment on the divisive look, with one Instagram user writing, "[It's] a BAD wig ... and style. [Nicole] ... you are SO MUCH prettier than this." Another commented, "Not liking the wig. Sorry."
She wore a straggly hairpiece in Nine Perfect Strangers
One of the biggest benefits of wigs is that they can hold more strands of hair than many of us have on our heads. That means they can easily look thicker and hold more volume than natural hair. But Nicole Kidman's "Nine Perfect Strangers" wig broke the mold. The hairpiece fell flat around her scalp, and the strands appeared straggly and thin. We could see straight through the wavy strands on her right side, which wasn't flattering.
Her Gotham Awards look didn't have enough volume at the ends
Nicole Kidman had the opposite issue with the dark-rooted blond wig she wore at the 2025 Gotham Awards. It had plenty of volume at the roots (a dead giveaway it wasn't all her own hair), but there was a serious contrast between its thickness at the top and the bottom. The strands appeared stringy, and the ends were much thinner and lacked styling, which only furthered how unnatural the hairpiece looked.
She had a short, strawberry blond hairpiece that didn't work
In 2021, Nicole Kidman shared a snap of herself on Instagram rocking a short, warm, strawberry-blond number that was obviously a wig. Not only were the strands super shiny and a little plastic-looking, but the sideswept bangs and unkempt part started from the center of her head, which was way too far back to be natural. Fans noticed her tresses looked off, too. "Looks like a wig!" one social media user wrote.
Her Halloween wig was spookily unflattering
We know, Nicole Kidman's jet back, long, straight wig was for Halloween, so it wasn't supposed to look like an authentic, luxurious hairpiece. But with all the wigs Kidman has worn and the access she has to the most expensive and authentic-looking hairpieces in the world, we'd have thought the actor could have dug out something better than this. In an Instagram video, the dark number looked too frizzy and harsh against her fair skin, making this far from her best look.
Nicole Kidman's Top of the Lake wig was frizzy
In 2016, Nicole Kidman was snapped while filming "Top of the Lake" in a seriously unflattering gray hairpiece. The voluminous number was full of flyaways and frizz, and the way the curls sat on her head made it obvious it wasn't her real hair. Of course, it was designed to age her in line with her character (and it worked), but we couldn't look away from this messy mane when we're so used to seeing the star with less unkempt locks with a healthy shine.

Her super blond wig in The Paperboy looked incredibly fake
Nicole Kidman donned another wig for her role in "The Paperboy." That time, she went fully blond in a heavily layered, choppy number that was so big and thick it was obviously a wig. It gave Pamela Anderson vibes in the height of her XXL extension phase, and, although it worked in the context of the movie, compared to some of Kidman's sleeker pieces, its choppy style and intense shine made it a celebrity wig that looked seriously cheap.
