The Oversized Accessory Melania Trump Needs To Ditch From Her Wardrobe

Whether or not you're a fan of her politics ,it's hard to deny that Melania Trump, who's known for her gorgeous transformation over the years, looks good for her age. The former model-turned-first lady turned 55 in 2025 and continues to stun by maintaining a lean figure. On top of that, her glam team does an excellent job with her makeup looks and blowouts, while her collection of tailored coats and beautiful couture gowns adds a sense of polish. Melania's style has always leaned elegant and refined, but even a fashion forward first lady can obsess over one accessory that she needs to ditch a bit too much. In her case, it's her oversized belts.

Every opportunity she has, the model-turned-first lady is spotted in a seriously oversized belt like thick enough to cover nearly her whole midsection. And while it was once a power accessory that could help accentuate her lean, hourglass figure, it's starting to overpower her look instead. Sure, with everything and anything retro trending, statement belts are once again a big accessory trend, but there's a fine line between nostalgic and dated.

It's understandable when she's sporting a belted jacket or coat, but Melania loves adding belts to too many outfits that surely didn't need one. Whether she's attending a state dinner or a press event, she makes sure to sport an big belt. Often, the belts are doing too much and end up dominating her entire look and draw attention away from the rest of her otherwise sophisticated styling.

One of her oversized belts completely ruined a perfect Carolina Herrera gown

Melania Trump rarely misses when it comes to making a fashion statement. But, let's be honest, her love for oversized belts has ruined so many outfits that had amazing potential. In fact, many of her belt-heavy looks are often deemed the first lady's worst outfits of all time. While it's evident she likes to use these belts as a way to accentuate the best part of her figure, they often cut her silhouette in half. Not only does this make her outfits look choppy, they also end up creating awkward proportions instead of the sleek lines she's best known for.

This was on full display during her and her husband's visit to the U.K. in September 2025. For a state banquet, the first lady opted for a strapless lemon yellow gown by Carolina Herrera, and the dress alone styled with her diamond encrusted drop earrings looked stunning. But of course, Melania had to add an oversized belt to the mix. The result? It completely killed the look. The almost retro-style lavender belt clashed too much with the gown's elegant hue and it ended up being the only thing people could focus on.

The ensemble would've been an absolute showstopper if only she had let the gown flow gracefully as it was meant to. Instead, she and her stylist team thought a lavender belt was a must and it resulted in a distracting and overly styled look.
