Strange Things About Behati Prinsloo And Adam Levine's Marriage We Can't Ignore

It's safe to say Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine's romance has faced its share of ups and downs. The two started dating in 2012, and they've tied the knot and welcomed three children since then, while repeatedly gushing over one another in interviews. "I'm blown away by her. I mean, honestly, she ... blows me away at every turn," Levine shared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2018 while discussing Prinsloo's return to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show after giving birth (via E! News). "I mean, I was there and I was just watching in awe, staring and drooling. It was really awesome. Much more importantly, she's the best person ever," he added.

These two clearly have a lot of love for one another. However, that doesn't mean there aren't some serious oddities in their relationship. From Levine's flirty message scandal to Prinsloo's friendships with her husband's exes, we just can't ignore these downright strange things.

Levine had to apologize for sending flirty texts to other women

One of the strangest things about Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine's romance? Their notorious cheating scandal. In 2022, the couple hit the headlines after model Sumner Stroh claimed in a since-deleted TikTok video that the former "The Voice" coach had sent her flirty messages online. While Prinsloo was pregnant with the couple's third child, Stroh purported that he sent a message asking if he could name the baby Sumner. As if that wasn't bad enough, four more women accused the singer of sending them inappropriate messages.

Levine denied having an affair but admitted to bad behavior. "I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner," he told TMZ. "In certain instances it became inappropriate. I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family," he added. "To be this naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that truly matters to me was the greatest mistake I could ever make. ... We will get through it and we will get through it together." Not only was Levine's behavior totally inappropriate, but it was also strange for the singer to speak on behalf of his wife in such a definitive way, as a lot of hard work has to go into building trust with someone who has cheated or betrayed your trust.

Prinsloo didn't publicly address the scandal, but the couple stayed together. She made it very clear she'd forgiven her husband in a 2025 Instagram post, where the model shared a snap of herself and the musician looking cozy with the caption "LOML" (which stands for "love of my life").

He dated her co-worker amid their brief breakup (and ghosted her when they reconciled)

When Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine started dating in 2012, things appeared to be going well for the glam couple — until he was linked to one of her co-workers in May 2013. Though the two hadn't publicly confirmed a split, a source told Us Weekly that "Behati was in and out, but they finally ended it. It wasn't an abrupt ending." The only reason the world found out about their breakup though was because the Maroon 5 frontman was spotted with Prinsloo's fellow Victoria's Secret model Nina Agdal.

Things didn't last long with Agdal though. By July 2013, not only were Levine and Prinsloo back together, they were engaged (though we're still only giving permission to get back with your ex sometimes). "The Nina thing was not that serious and was not going to last. After Adam broke up with Behati, he couldn't stop thinking about her. He realized he really loved her and wanted to be with her," an Us Weekly insider said. As sweet as that sentiment was though, the reconciliation and proposal happened eyebrow raising-ly quickly considering the singer was in a relationship with someone else mere weeks before getting down on one knee. Even worse? Us Weekly also claimed Levine ghosted Agdal when he got back with Prinsloo and told her about his engagement via text.

As for what Agdal had to say about the whirlwind proposal? She took the high road with E! News but confirmed she and Prinsloo ran in the same circles. "I am extremely happy for them," she said. "I met his fiancée many times and she is lovely."

Prinsloo was reportedly 'close friends' with Levine's ex

Adam Levine clearly has a type. Before finding love with Behati Prinsloo, he dated yet another Victoria's Secret model, Anne Vyalitsyna (also known as Anne V), who was reportedly good friends with Prinsloo. Levine and Vyalitsyna dated for two years, and Us Weekly's insider claimed after she publicly confirmed their split in April 2012, that "[Adam was] heartbroken. He wasn't even fully sure they were really broken up." It wasn't long before he got over that heartbreak and moved on with Prinsloo, though. Page Six confirmed they were dating two months later when they were seen kissing in Hawaii, and the outlet noted that Prinsloo was a "close friend" of Vyalitsyna. Dating a bestie's ex? Yeah, that may be a sign you're a bad friend.

Another strange thing is that they all attended the same event the year before Levine split with Vyalitsyna and started dating Prinsloo. Maroon 5 performed during the 2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, where Levine planted a kiss on Vyalitsyna's cheek on stage. That was the very same runway that Prinsloo sashayed down, meaning she probably spent time with the fellow model backstage. In 2013, he attended the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show again, this time to support Prinsloo. Awkward.

He shared controversial views on marriage before proposing

Shortly before Adam Levine got down on knee for Behati Prinsloo, he made some strange comments about marriage that should have been a red flag for his then-girlfriend. "If you don't get married, you can't get divorced," he told Nylon Guys in an interview published just three months before he proposed (via Page Six). "Why couldn't we learn from the devastatingly low percentage of successful marriages that our last generation went through?" he added. Yikes!

Those comments came exactly a year after he also mused about matrimony to PAPER Magazine. "I'm extremely fascinated by marriage. I want to study marriage. I want to learn about it. I want to know it. I want to figure out whether or not I want to do it," he said. "I'm not just going to leap into it, because that's not good for anybody," the "One More Night" singer said. Though it's totally okay not to be sold on the idea of marriage, with the swiftness of his proposal to Prinsloo just days after they reconciled, we'd argue he did leap into it.
