Kelly Osbourne Has Totally Transformed Over The Years

Kelly Osbourne has drastically transformed since we met her as a brash, spunky teenager on "The Osbournes." But it's been far from an easy ride to get where she is now. For every high, like major career successes and the birth of her first child, there have been some devastating lows for the daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. That includes a lifetime of gibes about her appearance and a serious painkiller addiction. Thankfully though, the former "Fashion Police" star is still thankful for her rollercoaster life.

"I am just so grateful for every mistake I made, for every lesson learned ... I have such an incredible life," she told Us Weekly in 2025. "My life has come very, very far. What could I possibly complain about? I work, I have an incredible partner and an unbelievable baby who has completely changed me," she added. So buckle up and grab your swear jar, because we're taking a trip down memory lane to examine Kelly's dramatic "Changes."

1984: Kelly Osbourne had a privileged but difficult childhood

As the daughter of rockstar Ozzy Osbourne and music manager Sharon Osbourne, Kelly's childhood was far from conventional. She was born in England in 1984 and grew up privileged — but that didn't mean her early life was easy. Kelly told the Independent that she and her siblings were often cared for by nannies to accommodate their parents' busy careers, and were sometimes subjected to unacceptable behavior.

"There was one nanny... I didn't want to eat vegetables, so she got me in a headlock and shoved them in my mouth," Kelly recalled. "Another nanny was sitting in the kitchen eating chocolate, and I asked if I could have some, and she said only if I licked the floor, so I did," she added. Kelly also recounted an experience with a third nanny who locked her and her siblings in a closet and threw a party. "Our housekeeper found us in the closet in the morning. My mother called the police on her," she shared.

Kelly confirmed on "TMZ Investigates: Matthew Perry & The Secret Celebrity Drug Ring" that she developed a painkiller addiction when she was just 13, which mirrored her dad's highly-publicized addiction issues. The star wrote candidly about growing up around addiction, recalling one incident in her memoir, "There Is No F***ing Secret: Letters from a Badass B**ch." "Dad was there in his boxers, and I watched him scoop his hands into a bowl of pills, swallow a handful of something, and then wash it down with vodka," she wrote, (via NME).

2002: She gained notoriety on The Osbournes and started a music career

Though Kelly Osbourne got a taste of fame early thanks to her parents' notoriety, she became a star in her own right in 2002 thanks to the notorious reality show "The Osbournes." The series — which also featured Ozzy, Sharon, and Jack Osbourne — was a huge success and won an Emmy Award. When asked why she thought it was so successful, Kelly — who'd adopted a gothic-inspired look with dark, short hair — told the Independent, "I think it's because we don't sugar-coat anything. We are just honest. That's refreshing to people because they are so sick of people being fake."

The family eventually moved to the States and Kelly started attending school in Beverly Hills, but she hated the experience and dropped out in the 10th grade. She later admitted on the British show "Tonight" she turned to drug use after finding it difficult to adjust. "I was completely and utterly miserable," she said (via BBC News). "Towards the end, there wasn't a second in a 24-hour day that I wasn't high on something."

Amid the turbulent time, Kelly was focused on her music career. She released her debut album "Shut Up" in 2002, which was re-released the following year under the new title "Changes" and included a duet with Ozzy. In 2005, she released her second, and final, album "Sleeping In The Nothing."

2004: Kelly Osbourne dabbled in fashion and acting

Kelly Osbourne's unique, punky style was front and center on "The Osbournes" — and she was making no apologies for the way she dressed or who she was. She told the Independent in 2004 she'd been asked by a teen magazine to pose in a crop-top during a photoshoot, but responded, "'I think you've neglected to notice that I'm fat. I'm not wearing that.'" People across the globe were looking to recreate her bold aesthetic, so a foray into fashion was the next logical step. Kelly launched her own clothing line, Stiletto Killers, with her friend Ali Barone.

As her star continued to rise, the bookings rolled in, and Kelly was ready to add actor to her résumé. She landed a role in the TV series "Life As We Know It," but the show ended after one season. She also hosted the British reality competition spin-off "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" and later replaced Elizabeth Hurley as the host of the U.K. version of "Project Runway," named "Project Catwalk."

Fans noticed she was looked different amid her glam new gigs, which may have been down to a cosmetic procedure. Kelly later admitted in her memoir that she started getting Botox (which can have multiple health benefits) in her 20s. "I had frown lines crosshatching my forehead from squinting into the bright lights to read the monitors, and it gave me raging resting b***h face," she wrote (via Entertainment Weekly).

2004: Addiction overshadowed her blossoming career

As Kelly Osbourne's career continued to heat up, she was still dealing with addiction. Also in 2004, the 19-year-old entered rehab for a painkiller addiction. Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne spoke about their daughter's troubles on "Larry King Live," with the latter sharing just hours after Kelly was admitted, "We just had to take evasive action very quickly, because the amount of pills that was found in her bag was astounding."

Kelly got candid about how her parents found out in her memoir, recalling (via Entertainment Weekly), "I was so f***ed up that I fell down on the living room floor and all my drugs came spilling out of my bag... My parents threw me into the back of an MTV production van, where the crew covered me with a blanket so they could sneak me past the paparazzi outside our house."

Sadly, Kelly's first rehab stint didn't help. In fact, it taught her how to hide her troubles better. Speaking on "TMZ Investigates: Matthew Perry & The Secret Celebrity Drug Ring," she confessed (via Fox News), "I'd learned so many tricks, so many things that I never even thought of from my fellow addicts that were in there." Kelly returned to rehab in 2005.

2009: Kelly Osbourne celebrated her sobriety and reignited her TV and movie career

In early 2009, Kelly Osbourne voluntarily entered rehab for the third time with the support of her family. She completed treatment and told People later that year, "I knew if I didn't get help, I would die. I'm getting a second chance [at my career] and I want to be present for it."

Kelly, who looked so different with her natural hair color after returning to blond, later told Shape magazine she believed her addiction was partly fueled by relentless trolling of her appearance in the media. "It broke my heart and ruined my self-esteem," she said. "I truly believe it's the main reason I turned to Vicodin and ended up in rehab three times. I just hated myself." She also told Us Weekly, "I never did drugs because I wanted to party. I did drugs because I wanted to numb myself. I hated who I was."

After getting sober, Kelly was ready to overhaul her career. That included an appearance on "Dancing with the Stars." She told Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM (via Digital Spy), "Dancing to me is like something I've always really wanted to be able to do, but have never had the confidence ... I wanted to do something that scared me." The TV personality made it to a respectable third place alongside her professional dance partner Louis van Amstel.

2010: The TV star had a drastic new look after a 50-pound weight loss

Kelly Osbourne lost about 20 pounds during her stint on "Dancing with the Stars," and went on to adopt a new diet and exercise routine. Her dancing partner, Louis van Amstel, was the one who introduced her to a balanced diet, Kelly told Shape magazine, attributing her weight loss to the change in lifestyle. She later began working with a personal trainer and lost an additional 30 pounds. "Louis van Amstel and 'Dancing With the Stars' changed my life," Kelly told "Access Hollywood."

Posing in a bikini for the cover of Shape, the dancing queen spoke about her newfound confidence. "After being called 'cherubic and chubby,' I'm rocking a bikini! I feel silly, but I think I'm going to cry," she said. Ready to reignite her acting career, Kelly went on to land roles in the 2012 movies "Should've Been Romeo" and "So Undercover" with Miley Cyrus. She also became a panelist on E!'s "Fashion Police" alongside the late Joan Rivers. "I finally became myself on 'Fashion Police,'" Kelly told Us Weekly

Her penchant for fashion was clear beyond TV, though. Kelly launched another clothing line in 2014, this time with HSN. "Because I have been everything from a size 0 to pretty much almost a 16, depending on the brand, it made me realize all the tricks I had learned to cover up certain areas or to detract from certain areas, and what I like in clothing," she told WWD.

2015: She hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons

Kelly Osbourne's career went from strength to strength in the early to mid-2010s. However, her trajectory hit a blip in 2015 when a controversy erupted over comments she made on "The View." While discussing president Donald Trump's treatment of Latinx people, Kelly quipped, "If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?"

The remark was met with serious backlash and she issued an apology on Facebook. "I whole-hearted[ly] f**ked up today ... I should have known better as I was on 'The View' and it was live. I've learned a very valuable lesson," Kelly wrote. "It is my hope that this situation will open up a conversation about immigration and the Latin community as a whole," she added. Speaking to Rolling Stone about the incident in 2024, Kelly referenced the memes and jokes that followed the awkward moment. "It's the most cringe moment of my entire life," she said. "But to see people be creative with it does put a smile on my face. It turns something so ugly into something funny."

2015 was all about big changes for the reality star. That same year, Kelly left "Fashion Police." "I'm excited for my future now. I want to try new things," she said on "The Talk" (via Entertainment Weekly).

2018: Kelly Osbourne explained her retreat from the spotlight

After leaving "Fashion Police," Kelly Osbourne took on a few bit-part projects and voiced a character in the cartoon "The 7D," but wasn't as visible as before. She explained why in 2018, sharing that she'd relapsed but was celebrating one year sober. "This past year has been one of the hardest years of my life," she wrote on Instagram, admitting she used work to distract herself from her issues. "I have [spent] the past year truly working on my mind body and soul! I had to take a step out of the public eye away from work and give myself a chance to heal and figure out who the f**k I really am without a camera in my face," she wrote.

Kelly spoke about how difficult avoiding relapse is and addressed addiction misconceptions on the British talk show "Loose Women." "People need to know rehab doesn't fix you, it just helps you to get yourself on the right track," she said. "You're never fixed. You spend your whole entire life doing everything you can to never pick up and use again."

Kelly also took another step in her physical transformation. Speaking on the "Hollywood Raw Podcast," she confirmed she'd undergone gastric sleeve surgery, a weight loss procedure that reduces the size of the stomach. And she was her usually unapologetic self about it (which we love). "I don't give a f*** what anyone says ... I will never ever, ever lie about it ever. It is the best thing I have ever done," she said.

2020: She addressed comments about her weight loss and changed appearance

Fans noticed that Kelly Osbourne looked drastically different in 2020, and plastic surgery rumors were flying in almost every gossip column. Kelly followed her namesake Kelly Clarkson's example and opened up about her weight loss, as well as sharing that her new look was partially the result of injections to treat her temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), which affects jaw movement. "It kind of made my jaw look skinnier. That's when people started to notice I had really lost weight, because it changed the shape of everything," the purple haired beauty said on the "Hollywood Raw Podcast."

"The Osbournes" star also addressed her new look on Instagram, writing in a comment (via People), "I lost 85 pounds." She later expounded on her weight loss to Us Weekly, sharing, "I didn't like the way I looked ... I'm really proud of my weight loss journey and where I'm at now. It's not easy. I wish I would've done [gastric sleeve] surgery sooner."

2021: Kelly Osbourne relapsed again and slammed plastic surgery rumors

The ever-candid Kelly Osbourne got real with fans again in 2021, sharing she relapsed. "I am an addict and had thought that I had enough time under my belt and I could drink like a normal person, and it turns out I cannot and I will never be normal," Kelly told Extra, reminding us to embrace a mindful approach towards our drinking habits. "I don't know why I even tried it. It's not for me and it took me a matter of days and I was like done, not doing this," she added.

Kelly continued to work on herself, inside and out. "I wanted the body to match the mind, because I spent so much time working on my mind and then I spent a year working on my body and now it's about the soul," she said. Also in 2021, Kelly clapped back amid rampant plastic surgery speculation. "I have not had plastic surgery. I've never done anything to my face other than a couple of injections in my lips, in my jaw, and in my forehead," she clarified in an Instagram video

Career-wise, the TV personality embraced new projects. Kelly launched her own podcast, "The Kelly Osbourne and Jeff Beacher Show," where she promised to be open about her life experiences. "I can't make these things go away from my life. I did them. I own them. And I take responsibility for them," she told Page Six. She also revealed she was producing three TV series'.

2022: Kelly Osbourne become a mom

In 2022, Kelly Osbourne experienced another huge chapter in her transformation when she announced she and her boyfriend Sid Wilson were expecting their first child. The star shared sonogram scans on Instagram and told fans, "I am over the moon to announce that I am going to be a Mumma. To say that I am happy does not quite cut it. I am ecstatic!"

The couple welcomed their son, Sidney, later that year, and Kelly detailed a scary moment during his birth with People, explaining his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. Thankfully, Sidney was born healthy and Kelly gushed over how grateful she was to experience motherhood. "I truly believe my baby saved me and made me a whole human," she told Us Weekly.

But things didn't run totally smoothly after Sidney's birth. Kelly was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and told Extra, "I had to lose the weight that I had gained during pregnancy. Otherwise, I was at a higher risk of actually getting diabetes." She confirmed she stopped eating sugar and carbs but denied taking Ozempic or other GLP-1s

2025: Kelly Osbourne experienced the death of her father but was ready for a milestone birthday

Kelly Osbourne experienced the tragic death of her dad, Ozzy Osbourne in July 2025. He passed away aged 76, and Kelly mourned him in a poignant post on Instagram Stories. "I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had," she wrote (via BBC). Fortunately, Ozzy was able to see his daughter get engaged, as Sid Wilson proposed to Kelly (who was back to blond) in front of her family mere weeks before Ozzy's death.

There was another bright spot in Kelly's life as geared up to celebrate her 40th birthday. "Turning 40 is the opportunity to be the real me and say goodbye to all of the past. I get to start again," she told Us Weekly. The Brit admitted she not only felt like she was in a better place with her sobriety, but also with her confidence. "I didn't used to be able to look at myself in the mirror. I was the kind of girl who showered with the lights off because I didn't want to look at my body. I don't feel that way [anymore]," she said, underscoring why her transformation is one of the most inspiring in Hollywood. Despite the ups and downs, with her son in her arms and a wedding on the horizon, Kelly's future is looking bright.
