4 Celeb Couples Who Called Off Their Divorce & Got Back Together

Anyone who's ever been married will tell you that marriage isn't easy. Like any relationship — romantic, platonic, or familial — marriage takes a lot of work, and if those involved aren't willing to give it 100%, it's not likely to last. While some stages of a relationship are easy to navigate, other stages create issues that few relationships actually survive. It's these moments, a major crisis, for example, that require extra perseverance, active listening, and understanding.

But because not everyone is equipped to give a relationship their all when things get tough, calling it quits can feel like the right move. After all, roughly 50% of first marriages end in divorce, so it's not exactly like you're breaking the mold by getting one. While a divorce may seem like an easy fix in the heat of the moment, a 2017 study published in Wiley Online Library found that as many as 50% of those who considered divorce changed their mind within a year. In other words, time actually does reveal all things if you just give it a chance.

When it comes to marriages, there's nothing quite as fraught as a celebrity marriage. While there are a handful of celeb marriages we think will stand the test of time, many of them just don't stand a chance. Then there are those famous couples who get married, decide they want out of the marriage, only to realize they're actually in it to win it. It's this group of celebrities who deserve a round of applause. It's not easy to admit your relationship needs work, especially when you're in the public eye.

Chynna Phillips and Billy Baldwin

Chynna Phillips and Billy Baldwin have had a tumultuous relationship. The two met in 1991 and married four years later in 1995. Although things, at least from the outside, appeared to be going smoothly, welcoming three children in the early 2000s, Phillips filed for divorce in 2010. "It's our 19th anniversary this year and we've been together a really long time. I started to feel a little flat-lined, like I need more and want more, and I know we deserve more from our marriage," Phillips told Us Weekly in June 2010 about her decision to seek a divorce.

But the ink was barely dry on the paperwork when Phillips decided to withdraw the filing, telling Us Weekly that divorcing Baldwin would be the biggest mistake of her life. While the couple sought professional help in the form of couples therapy, the bumps in their marriage continued. In November 2024, Phillips announced on her YouTube channel that the two were living apart, but that they had regular date nights and were still deeply in love.

According to Phillips, some of the more recent strife has to do with her converting to Christianity in 2022, claiming that Baldwin is jealous of her relationship with Jesus. "Billy struggles with the whole Jesus journey that I'm on and I think sometimes he feels like he's being upstaged by the big man," Phillips, a now self-proclaimed Jesus influencer, told her followers. But apparently, Baldwin is willing to share Phillips with the "big man," because as of 2025, the two were living together again.

Vanessa and Kobe Bryant

Although Kobe Bryant's life, along with that of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, was tragically cut short in a helicopter crash in 2020, he and his wife Vanessa were together for a whopping 20 years when he passed away. Bryant and Vanessa were basically kids when they met in November 1999 and got engaged just six months later — she was 17 and he was 21. When the two officially tied the knot in 2001, Bryant opted out of a prenup, justifying his decision by saying he loved her too much to get one.

Just two years after their wedding, Bryant was charged with sexual assault, an allegation he vehemently denied. "I'm innocent," Bryant said in a press conference in July 2003. "I sit here in front of you guys furious at myself, disgusted at myself for making the mistake of adultery." In that moment, Bryant became one of the many celebrities to admit to cheating on their partner, and it also seemed like that would be an ideal time for Vanessa to serve Bryant his papers, but she stayed by his side. In September 2004, the charges against Bryant were dropped.

It wasn't until 2011, about the time of their 10th anniversary, that Vanessa filed for divorce from Bryant, citing irreconcilable differences. Two years later, in 2013, Vanessa announced on Instagram that the two had reconciled (via CNN), adding that they were looking forward to the future they'd be sharing together. Vanessa and Kobe Bryant were still together when he passed away in January 2020.

Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller

While some couples need to make it everyone's business when they separate or file for divorce, others like to keep their private lives private. Although Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller never officially filed for divorce when they separated in 2017, after 17 years of marriage, that was the direction that their relationship was headed. Then COVID-19 happened.

"We got married very quickly after meeting each other," Taylor told Drew Barrymore on "The Drew Barrymore Show" in 2023, adding that family was always their priority, but they started to evolve in different directions. So, they decided to separate and keep it to themselves. "We were at this impasse of, let's figure this out, what's best at this chapter in our lives," Taylor told Barrymore.

Despite being separated, the family decided to spend the pandemic together. "I didn't expect we were going to get back together," Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter in February 2025. "But when we broke up, there was a part of me that wasn't ready to just give up on it ... I was not ready to just go, 'OK, enough of this.'" As Taylor told Barrymore, getting back together with Stiller happened organically. The couple had a few years apart to grow as individuals, then when they came together during lockdown, they were where they needed to be for their marriage to make sense again. This is a perfect example of when a break is a smart relationship strategy.

Pink and Carey Hart

When it comes to the key ingredient in Pink and Carey Hart's successful marriage, they're one of the celebrity pairs who are normalizing couples therapy. "Carey and I have been in couples counseling almost our entire 17 years that we've been together," Pink told Carson Daley on Today in April 2019. "It's the only reason we're still together." In fact, the couple considered throwing in the towel not just once, but twice.

After meeting at the Summer X Games in 2001, Pink and Hart got married in 2006 — but not before separating in 2003. In 2008, the two separated again, because they didn't have enough time to work on the parts of their marriage that needed to be stronger. "We'd try to fix everything in those five days — you just can't do that," Pink told Redbook in February 2013, adding that the issues just continued to build, and it all got away from them.

But after 11 months apart, Pink and Hart managed to find their way back to each other before the divorce papers were filed. The two are still together and are now the parents of two daughters. Throughout her marriage to Hart, Pink has been open about the difficulties that come with sustaining a healthy relationship — including the role sex plays. "You'll go through times when you haven't had sex in a year," Pink told The Guardian in October 2017, explaining that monogamy takes a lot of work. But the trick is being willing to put in the effort, then you can ideally reignite your sex life after a dry spell and get things back on track.
