Carrie Fisher's Daughter Billie Lourd Has Had A Stunning Transformation

Billie Lourd was born into one of the most iconic families in Hollywood. When your mom is Carrie Fisher, your grandmother is Debbie Reynolds, and your grandfather is singer Eddie Fisher, who famously left Reynolds for her best friend, Elizabeth Taylor, you have yourself one heck of a family legacy to live up to. That is, if you choose to take the acting route, as Lourd has decided to do, despite her family's earlier objections.

"I think in a normal family they would have looked at me and been like, 'Hey, this kid's a performer.' But I was so scared. I was embarrassed, honestly," Lourd told Town & Country in August 2017. "Because they were like, 'This is going to be a really sh***y lifestyle, and everyone's going to be scrutinizing you deeply and constantly.'" However, her family eventually got over it. In fact, Lourd's mom, Carrie, helped her score her first film role in 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Although she may have started her career alongside her mom, Lourd has proven she's not just one of the best-dressed nepo babies in Hollywood. Between starring in "Scream Queens" and winning the Best Supporting Actress award from the LA Online Film Critics Society for her role as Gigi in "Booksmart," Lourd is carving out her own path. She may only be 33, but she's had a stunning transformation so far, and we can't wait to see where she goes from here.

Unconventional beginnings with her mom and grandmother

It goes without saying that Billie Lourd had a very interesting childhood. Although her dad, Bryan Lourd, wasn't an actor, being a talent agent makes him very much a part of the industry. Which also means that Lourd grew up around celebrities and even attended their parties. A perfect example of this unconventional upbringing is the fact that 10-year-old Lourd was in attendance at one of Gore Vidal's makeout parties, something that she and Sarah Paulson reminisced about for Town & Country. But before that legendary incident, Lourd was just a kid at Disneyland living her best life.

Practicing for future dramatic roles

If you follow Billie Lourd on Instagram, then you can tell she's a lot like her mom and grandmother in that she's always out to get a laugh. While Lourd may look serious posing in her ice-skating outfit in a flashback photo she posted on Instagram in July 2019, it's pretty clear she really knows how to have fun. "I'd say definitely the comedy is in the genetics," Lourd told People in March 2025. "They were better at it than me ... I'm a very distinct personality, definitely different from both of them."

Like mother, like daughter

When your mom is Princess Leia and you get to act alongside her as Lt. Kaydel Ko Connix, as Billie Lourd did in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," that adds some major clout to your work resume. "I love being my mother's daughter, and it's something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie," Lourd told Town & Country in August 2017, adding that it was her duty to uphold her mother's incredible legacy. Although Carrie Fisher passed away before "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," Lourd was able to fulfill that duty by playing a young Princess Leia in the latter.

Officially a scream queen

For Billie Lourd, 2015 was a big year. Not only did she solidify herself as part of the Star Wars franchise like her mother before her, but she also had a starring role in "Scream Queens." In December of that year, Lourd appeared on "Live! with Kelly" to promote the series. During the show, Kelly Ripa shared a video of Lourd singing "At Last," a song popularized by Etta James, that showed off her singing skills — a talent she definitely scored from her grandmother, Debbie Reynolds. For the occasion, Lourd was decked out in a red and white dress by Emanuel Ungaro and accessories by Tom Ford.

Celebrating her two dads tying the knot

To add to her unconventional life, Billie Lourd's father, Bryan Lourd, left her mother, Carrie Fisher, when he realized he was gay. In Fisher's 2008 memoir, "Wishful Drinking," she wrote, "He told me later that I had turned him gay ... by taking codeine again. And I said, 'You know, I never read that warning on the label.'" Of course, no one can be turned gay. Instead, Lourd's dad is just one of many LGBTQ+ celebrities who came out well into their careers. When her dad married restaurateur Bruce Bozzi in 2016, Lourd posted a gem of a photo in which she's not only clearly happy for them, but her full-length floral chiffon dress almost steals the show.

Being herself at Coachella

In 2018, Billie Lourd attended Coachella wearing this white crop top and a fluorescent tea-length, pleated skirt. When it comes to the most stylish shoes to wear with your midi skirt, sneakers are always on the list, so Lourd having completed this outfit with white Chuck Taylors is a great choice. In some ways, Coachella has become our generation's Studio 54, in that it's a place to go, maybe indulge in some illegal substances, and most importantly, see and be seen. Lourd's mom was a regular at Studio 54, a place that had been introduced to her by her boyfriend-turned-husband, Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel fame. Lourd definitely got the thrill of being at the trendiest places because of her mom.

Living her best life in Rome

Showcasing that she's just as carefree as mom Carrie Fisher, in August 2021, Billie Lourd posed on the Spanish Steps in Rome in a maxi dress and black Converse sneakers. Just one year prior, in September 2020, Lourd gave birth to her first child with actor Austen Rydell, and the two married in March 2022. By the time Lourd posted this photo on Instagram, she'd already attended her first Met Gala (in 2019) and appeared in "Booksmart," which earned her the award for Best Supporting Actress from The LA Online Film Critics Society.

Baby number two on board

For the world premiere of "Ticket To Paradise" in London in September 2022, Billie Lourd rocked head-to-toe pink. The film, starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, also brought Lourd back together with her "Booksmart" co-star Kaitlyn Dever. Although the movie got mixed reviews, one thing's for sure: Lourd in this pink sparkly mini dress with pink tulle sleeves is a revelation. During a red carpet interview with The Upcoming, Lourd said of her role as Wren Butler in the film, "I like to call her a wild ride of a character ... I really got to improv and mess around ... my motto in the movie is more is more because it always is."

Rocking Oscar de la Renta for The Last Showgirl

Because she knows that pink sparkles are definitely her thing, Billie Lourd wore a 3D pink sparkly flower mini dress by Oscar de la Renta for the premiere of "The Last Showgirl" in September 2024. The film put Lourd opposite heavy hitters like Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, and the ensemble of them all won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. With two awards under her belt and having come into her own on the fashion front, Lourd isn't just doing the legacy of her mom and grandmother justice, but proving she followed the right career path after all.

Tinkerbell turns 33

For her 33rd birthday, it seems Billie Lourd had a Disney-themed party. While the birthday girl dressed as Tinkerbell, her friends took on characters like Snow White, Cinderella, and Ariel. Lourd may now be living life without the women who most influenced her, but their presence is never too far away. In fact, Lourd got a matching tattoo to honor her mom and help start the healing process on her mom's birthday in 2017. While the world lost two legends, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, on December 27 and 28, respectively, in 2016, at least we still have Billie Lourd. It's going to be a fun ride to see what she does in the coming years, both personally and professionally.
