Losing someone special is hard, and can be made harder when you're famous, making grief feel all the lonelier than it already is. That's what Jennifer Love Hewitt, who still looks ageless when she's makeup-free, explores in her new memoir, "Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, and Making Every Day Magical," and it's a heartfelt memoir on mother-daughter bonds that deserves a spot on your TBR.

The actor dives into the aftermath of great loss, and her road to emotional healing through her late mother's philosophy on life: "Make ordinary days special and special occasions unforgettable." This story isn't like any other celebrity memoir, in which you read about the behind-the-scenes of red carpet events and front-page scandals. Instead, it's a rare look into a celebrity's most private heartbreak and the meaningful traditions that helped her cope with the loss of her beloved mother, Patricia Mae.

"Inheriting Magic" is part memoir, part photo book, part party-planning guide, and part cookbook. It's a tender blend of Hewitt's life behind the spotlight as a mom of three, the family traditions she uses to honor the life of her late mother, and the actor's journey to finding joy after an immense loss. Through stories, special snaps from the past and present, and family recipes, this memoir will teach you to embrace magic in your day-to-day life and savor the meaningful moments with loved ones.

Jennifer Love Hewitt channeled her grief into joy for her children

A little over a year after she lost her mom to cancer, Jennifer Love Hewitt welcomed her first child, Autumn. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote her memoir, she said she was still struggling with her grief at the time, but she saw her little girl and thought, "I had a job to do. I had to make things magical that first Christmas, and I couldn't sort of sit in my pain because I had a little girl and new husband."

Hewitt was determined to show up for her daughter and be the mom her late mother always was for her, trying to create magic and joy where there had been pain and sorrow. That's why she said, "Magic for me ... is the intention. It is a mindset, it's a thing that you try to do." She's well aware that not every single day of someone's life can just be magical, so she emphasized the importance of holding space for the unexpected twists and turns of life.

For readers, if there's one thing they should remember from the book, "[It's to] set the intention that you want your life to be more magical, and do it." While it may not happen instantly, she said it's all about trying. The actor explained her late mom tried to create magic for her growing up, and on a day that was supposed to be any old school day, she would surprise Jennifer and "pull [her] out of school" to just have a magical day together.
