Candace Cameron Bure & Her Daughter Twinned In Inappropriate Wedding Guest Dresses
There are rules to abide by when dressing for someone else's wedding — and that includes several colors that are no-gos for wedding guests. But it seems no one told Candace Cameron Bure or her daughter Natasha Bure that. In 2021, the former "Full House" and "Fuller House" star shared a family photo from a wedding on her Instagram, which showed her and Natasha matching in vampy, red dresses. The problem? It's often advised that wedding guests steer clear of red. And there are a few reasons why the color could be considered inappropriate.
First off, celebrity stylist and bridal fashion expert Micaela Erlanger explained red ensembles can be too attention grabbing. "This color is too strong and harsh and could distract in photos, ultimately taking the attention away from the guests of honor and the couple," she told Who What Wear U.K. And it's not hard to argue the vibrant shade of red the mother-daughter duo opted for (and the thigh-high slit on Natasha's dress) may have been a little too spicy for someone else's big day.
Another reason it's a good idea to side step the hue is because, in some Asian cultures, red is considered lucky and a sign of good fortune, so many brides wear red wedding dresses instead of the white ones favored in many Western cultures. And there's an even more controversial third reason. Speaking on "The Unfiltered Bride" podcast, wedding planner Georgie Mitchell explained while discussing colors to avoid as a wedding guest, "Red means you've slept with the groom ... Old wives' tale, but, yeah," she added. Though we're sure that didn't happen with Candace or Natasha, the two could easily have found dresses that were just as gorgeous but not so controversial.
Candace Cameron Bure clapped back over her red wedding guest dress
Candace Cameron Bure didn't seem too worried about the backlash she and Natasha Bure faced over their red wedding guest dress debacle. After fans noticed Candace's outfit totally missed the mark, she hit back. One Instagram user scolded the former "The View" co-host in the comments, writing (via Page Six), "[You're] supposed to avoid red at weddings it's a power color steals spotlight from the bride." The Great American Family star attempted to justify her and Natasha's eyebrow raising ensembles, clapping back, "Different style rules in Los Angeles."
But the comments section of the otherwise sweet family snap was mixed across social media. Candace posted the same snaps on Facebook, where one person wrote, "You and your daughter look beautiful, OMG your dresses are beautiful!!" However, another commented, "Unless the bride asked for it – Red just isn't a good wedding attire choice – no matter the state. Sorry." As divided as the comments were though, Candace (who also proved frumpy mother of the groom looks are a thing of the past) certainly isn't alone as a celeb who wore an inappropriate outfit to someone else's wedding.
