Chrissy Teigen Looks So Different Without Hair Extensions

There's a lot to love about model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen, but one of our favorite things about her is how candid she is about what goes into looking so good. Not only has this outspoken celeb been refreshingly honest about her breast augmentation, she's also been real about wearing hair extensions to give her locks length and volume. In fact, extensionist Priscilla Valles (who created the hair extensions Kim Kardashian is nearly unrecognizable without) credited Teigen for helping break down extension taboos. "The breaking point in my career came when Chrissy lost an extension," Valles told Vogue. "She started posting about it and it opened the conversation." Valles appeared to be referring to an Instagram snap Teigen posted from the White House in 2012 while holding a clump of extra hair. "I just accidentally pulled a hair extension out of my head in the first lady's office," she wrote. While she certainly looks different without this particular accessory, she always looks stunning.

Teigen appeared to be sans hair extensions in a 2023 Instagram upload that showed her with a blunt, shoulder-skimming bob. She wore her locks in a gorgeous, rich brown with caramel highlights. The center part hairdo made a fresh and fun change to her usually longer tresses, which she'd returned to in the third snap in the upload. "Love your look and your hair without extensions. You look fantastic," one person commented.

Teigen also gave us a look at her locks without super long extensions when she tried a highlighted, choppy cut in 2020. The beauty shared a video on Instagram as she proudly rocked her new mid-length style, which included face farming layers and sideswept bangs. The stunning haircut gave us '90s retro sitcom star vibes.

It's no surprise Chrissy Teigen can change her hair's length and volume at short notice, as she's a fan of clip-in extensions, which can look natural even in the thinnest hair (when done right). In 2017, Teigen documented the process of getting the accessories removed on Snapchat. Her assistant attempted to unclip her extra locks while the former "Lip Sync Battle" host rolled around on the floor. "Now hiring: new assistants to take my hair out cause this one sucks," Teigen joked (via Marie Claire U.K.).

But it's not just extensions Teigen has utilized to get her hair looking the way she wants. In 2025, the star confirmed in an Instagram Stories post that she'd undergone a hairline lowering procedure. "[I] lost a lot in the front from babies and it's just very thin up there. When you see it on a carpet, it's ALWAYS extensions," she wrote alongside a photo of herself with a bandage on her head (via People). As long as the star did the research and was aware of the risks before getting plastic surgery, we can't fault her for doing whatever makes her feel most confident.
