The Inappropriate Wedding Guest Dress Taylor Swift Won't Ever Live Down
Taylor Swift might call Jack Antonoff her best friend, but the outfit she wore to attend his wedding to Margaret Qualley had some seriously unfriendly upstaging vibes. While the corseted lace Erdem dress that Swift wore might have technically been blue, the light shade photographed white. Given its tiered silhouette, the effect was more than a little bridal. That's a bold choice to make, particularly as a celebrity so famous she risked stealing the spotlight simply by attending.
Of course, wearing white is the ultimate wedding faux pas, since doing anything to pull attention from the couple at the center of the festivities is considered rude. But beyond just white, there are nine other colors you should avoid wearing to weddings. That includes pastel shades that technically pass the "no white" rule but might look bridal in pictures. "Anything very light-colored that looks white in photographs is definitely not worth risking," said Rosie Williams, co-founder of bridal brand The Own Studio, in a 2025 interview with Vogue.
It's not the first time Swift has stolen the show
In 2016, Taylor Swift wore white to attend the wedding of backup dancer, Eliotte Nicole. The shift was not an especially bridal silhouette but the color sure was — a textbook example of celebs showing up to other people's weddings wearing inappropriate outfits. The creamy color looks nearly indistinguishable form the bride's white dress in photographs. If pastel colors are risky wedding attire, white is definitely a big no.
The dress wasn't even a particularly standout look on Swift, since the color manages to clash with her then-bleach blonde hair and the stiff, oversized fit obscures her frame and disrupts the vertical line with her body. So it's a big of a mystery that she flouted social protocol to wear it. We would expect her to be more of a girl's girl, especially since Swift's favorite books are a crash course in girlhood. Still, considering that the bride shared photos of herself with the white-clad Swift on her Instagram, with a caption saying, "You are truly one of a kind and I am blessed to know you!," it's probably safe to assume the fashion faux pas didn't result in any bad blood.
